2 mystery files--know what these are?

In cleaning up my iRiver iHP-140 files today, I came across the following 2 files on my computer. Does anyone know what these are and if I safely can delete them? I'm not sure which of the programs put the files there: iRiver's, TDT, iHPTool, iRivium, Moodlogic, or otherwise, and it's driving me a bit mad. (I'm using Windows XP as my operating system.)

-- iRivEncrypt.dll (listed as the iRivEncrypt Module, File Version 1.0.0.1, Created 3/6/2004 9:58 AM, Size 244 KB)

-- iHPDetect.exe (listed as iHP-100 Drive Letter Search App., File Version 1.0.0.1, Created 3/6/2004 9:58 AM, Size 28.0 KB)

I can't speak about the iRivEncrypt file, but I think the iHPDetect is the file that makes the player show up as a drive when you plug it into your computer. When you go through the little installation that first time you plug the player into a computer, I believe that file is created and makes it so you don't have to go through any menus every time you plug it in. 708 K memory usage in the Windows Task Manager, and it constantly runs.

You're right--the iHPDetect is running in the background. I just don't recall it before (and I guess I didn't think that with Windows XP any software needed to be installed to run the iHP players). Both files were created at the same time, and the day I first used my player (before tinkering with any other software!), and so my hunch is that the files indeed were put there by iRiver.

Do others (especially those with Windows XP systems) have these 2 files on their PC systems?

not sure but if i remember well i had those 2 files in program files only when i installed iriver manager from the cd-rom.

i have none of these files on my ihp nor on my comp, and my ihp is detected automatically by windows as an external drive

i think u shouldn't care about these files, no matter if they are on your os or in the ihp, u should delete them. but it's my my personal thought only, wait for some more comments.

When I first got my iHP, I ran iHP Manager because I was going to use the iRiver db function and it's needed for that. I bet these 2 files are the result of that.

iHPDetect.exe is the file that's always running in the background and recognizes your player and adds the "Add to database" option to the menu you get when you right-click the mp3 files in your player but Windows XP will recognize your player as an external drive without it. You don't need it unless you are using the database or don't have a 3rd party software like TDT.
