Future e10 firmware requests
OK, so I dunno what effect this will have or how it would get noticed by iRiver, but even though I love my e10, there are a few things on it that drive me crazy. So I thought we should start a thread on things we'd love to see in future firmware releases. So here's a few of mine (partly pasted from another thread):
1. The ability to update playlists on the device, so that you can use true drag and drop and not rely on iRiver Plus 2 to update (it is supposed to be a UMS device after all!) I don't want to sync using any software, but to access a photo or a song or whatever, you have to use iRiver Plus 2. I can handle, if I have to, using playlist navigation rather than browse (which is tucked away in sub menus), but ideally I'd like to simply be able to drag and drop using explorer, then have the device either automatically update or use a manual update function on the device itself. 2.The ability to delete files on the device. What happens, for example, if I want to do an FM recording and I find I'm short of room on the player? How do I make room without connecting it to a PC? 3. More info on the 'Now Playing' screen. Especially track numbers, but also possibly other info (or access to it), like bit rates, etc. 4. Scrolling artist name as well as track title on the now playing screen (though this is not really a biggie). That's it for starters for me... Clear Queue: I would like to see the option to "Clear Queue" I can add items to the queue from the Now playing screen but don't think it's possible to clear the queue and start again. Am I correct?
Playlist rating: I would like to see or at least have the option when I choose for example 3 Star playlist that it includes all 3 Star and Upward rated tracks. It seems odd to me that I would want to listien only to medium favorite tracks but exclude my real favorites (ie the 4 & 5 star tracks). FM Station Names: Name FM Presets, only save the frequency. Naming would be good. Audible Support: I'd like to be able to play purchased Audible recordings. I guess we need MTP/Plays for Sure until that is remotly possible but I still want it Delete File from device: I also want this, would be great when listening to a new abum to be able get delete obvious garbage so I never have to hear it again That's it for now

I had a look around the iriver Australia website and found a contact us link. I wrote the following to them. Hopefully someone comes and looks in on this thread . . . You never know
User thoughts on new firmware for the E10 Hi iriver. I am a proud owner of an E10 player and an active participant in the misticriver.net forums regarding the E10. The following link is a thread we have started showing what the users would love to see in up and coming firmware releases http://misticriver.net/showthread.php?t=45409 It would be awesome if any of the iriver developers could drop in and take a look at the ideas we have. Thanks Rob J

Hi
I got a response from iriver yesterday afternoon. Obviously no guarentee about requests appearing in new firmware but a very positive response was given. I've pasted the contents below. Cheers & fingers crossed. --------------------------- Robert Thanks for your support of iriver (especially the E10, which in my opinion is one of iriver's best ever). I'll forward these points onto iriver Korea. Regards, Danny

Awesome! Good job man. Pity there's no one else added to the list so far, but they're all reasonable requests so hopefully they'll listen. What's up with this whole e10 forum anyway? How come so little action? Must be because it's a pretty new player...?

It is a new player so I guess we'll see more E10 forum postings in due course. It's such an awesome player, who wouldn't want to get one. If iriver Korea take on some of hrese suggestions it will only make it more appealing over a nano.

Rating on Now Playing Screen: I thought it would also be cool to display the rating of the current track on the now playing screen. Would be good to know weather the track was rated or in need of a rating.

yeha all good
i would like to see:
-the ability to play music while playing flash games!!! -"play all" of an "artist" shows a list of songs instead of just next and previous -scrolling speed from slow to very fast as u hold it down... or maybe another menu item with list scoll speed im not sure how firmware works and how easy it is to do updates like this so forgive me if these things are to hard. Definitely, rjeeves33, deleting things straight from the device would be great. GO IRIVER E10 Last edited by xinnerzeric : August 12th, 2006 at 07:38 PM. |

To elaborate a bit on xinnerzeric's suggestion:
- scrolling speed from slow to very fast as u hold it down It would be great if the e10 starts skipping letters when the down button is held down for say, > 1.5 seconds. I think the address book in some of the newer windows mobile devices do this, by displaying a large capital letter in the middle of the screen. |

An ability to set the Iriver to turn off the screen while syncing and charging - would allow it to charge quicker and reduce chances of the backlight burning out prematurely. I mean its not like the screen is really displaying anything usefull during this period.

I think it is better to allow people charging while using E10(say playing songs or video), the connection statement is really annoying. I cannot charge by E10 using my AAA battery case and listen to it at the same time if just in case my E10 is out of battery when I don't have power source around. And I do not want to charge it before it ran out cause it will shorten the battery life, I really don't want to charge my E10 every hour in the future!!!
P.S. And better extend its remote control function, say to remote control a computer media player(foobar2000, WMP etc.) |

bah! haven't seen any new firmware updates at all for a while now! some updates would be good to get rid of the 'once-in-a-while' freezes which require resets and also some new features would be handy.

The only thing I really want is to not require any syncing software for music & photos. As mentioned it's a UMS device...it should behave as one. Currently I have to use the Extras > Browse Device feature or put up with the iRiver software.
I'd also like to make playlists using the E10 (if it's not already possible?) - such as browsing my music, pressing a key (a Smart Key option?) and have that song added to the Now Playing playlist. |

Playlist on the E10
G'day mate - you can add songs to the 'quicklist' while using the E10. Forget exactly how but something like with the song highlighted hold the right arrow and choose 'Add to quicklist' The quicklist is available under the Playlists area.

Yep, that's right. All you have to do is press and hold the right arrow and the option to add to the Quicklist comes up. Also, if you browse through the rest of your library, while a song is playing, if you press and hold the right arrow on a song or an album, you also get the option to add it to the queue. So you can create a temporary playlist that way.

Is this 'quicklist' option only available when browsing synced music. Because I cant see any such option

I recon that there should be an information page saying things like how many trracks and vid and games ect. and how much room is left and how much we've used up.
My old mp3 player (128meg, yep, 32 songs)had that, it's much more useful than it sounds, especially if you can just put two albums on it...
