problem formatting new hd

My H10's 20gig hd died due to being dropped, so I bought a new one. Problem is, I'm haveing a tough time formatting the new drive. I tried swissknife but it didn't work on my xp and vista machines and linux didn't even see the h10 plugged in. It almost worked using DOS but it failed at around 90% completion. It seems like the computer looses track of the hd. Any suggestions?

I've used SwissKnife on XP without any issue. Perhaps try again?

Could it possibly be a defective HDD - sounds like you've got it connected? You're formatting it at FAT32, right? WHat model # is the HDD?
