What's up DOCK??

Well I have finally made my dock!!

It was my turn (inspired by Haku, thanks) to get my handmade dock ready.
Though its not as cool and firm as Hakus, but it gets the job done quickly and good!

The main problem was to find a base for it. That was the hardest one. I was very confused as to what I should use to put the iHP up. I finally decided to get a simple paper box!
I chose a Motorola mobile phone paper box and made the base.

I cant tell that it was easy. Though in start I thought that it will be.
I encountered various problems. Most of the about the base and off course the aliance of the power plug and the USB mini B plug.

If you want any pointers I will have to say to First draw a schematic on how you will make the joints with the cables LEDs and switches. In my first try (without a schematic) I screwed all the project up and started from scracth! So watch it!

If you got any suggestions, comments or you want help to make your own dock, just shoot it!

Here are some pics:

Well now that I have in mind with the design I could make it to fold.

But this one cant be folded actually because it has some screws for the plugs to be in place, also the wires arent in the ideal place to fold...
But yes If I make another one maybe I will have to try the fold thing(though it will be bad for the paper box)

I could make some more to ship them but I am not sure If I will succeed in it.
It is not so well made and I will have to find better (and standard) paper boxes for the job. Also the finish isnt ideal but I guess thats the "price" of a paper box after all!!

I encourage all of you though to make your own hand made dock. The process of making it is a unique experiance of joy, anger and creativity.

Interesting. Kinda lightweight though. Might it tip over if there is a strong gust of wind ? (outdoors, or through an open window maybe ?)

No, but you got it nearly.

Sorry for the fricking pics, but I do not own a true digital camera.
Although the pics have been taken by a ""Digital camera"" (if you can call it camera) its one of those little ones without screen, 8MB storage and a MAGNIFYING glass to focus

The camera was sent by a lame company as a gift.(with other items)
You can clearly see that maglight lighter I have placed by the side of the dock, because the camera refused to take shots in this Dark place.

If you want further pics (I will try to get them better) feel free to ask

I didnt quite get the message. Where exactly is the relation between the iPoo and the iHP dock.

I mean I know that a lot of people dislike iPoos but they say this in relevant posts...

I have uploaded a wiring diagram of the USB Cable modification in order to make a Dock.

You can see it here!

As I mention in my first post, you can use a small piece (3x3 dots) of PCB board to make the cables to be soldered more secure. PCB are those boards that electronic staff are being soldered. It is like the motherboard of the iHP (though those are desgined before anything) but off course it is more simple with many holes for the average user to do what he likes.

But you can make the cable without the little PCB segment. Just follow the connections....

First post here on the forum, and i have to give it to you.

Nothing wrong with your enthusiasm, but man.. a paper box?
Even some wood would be better! ;P.
Nice work tough, inspired me to start thinking about a dock on my own.

Hehe thank you baheglobob and welcome to MisticRiver!

Truth is that my major problem when I was building my dock, was were to put all these damn cables and how to make it stable.

After a lot of tries I concluded that a (hard) paper box is the most easy and versatile option.
Yes, it is cheap and a little ugly but the paper box is quite stable and error resistant. I made a lot of mistakes when I built the dock and this paper box was quite resistant.

Of course it would be better to use a wooden one, but I was/am lazy to do it. At the moment the dock is in no use. I upgraded to an H300 and made my mod to the original H300 dock. I added 2 buttons in order to control charging and synching.

Ouch, sorry.
Didn't realize that it was a old thread.
Does this mean I get a free cookie?

Edit;
xaviergr: I'm have my thoughts about making a hole in my wooden table (pretty thick table) and mesure where the cables should go and therefor drill holes for the cables. If this is going to work out or not? Holy smoke I don't know but it's worth a try.
Peace out.

I've done this and it works a treat. 1)To mark the holes removed the leather case 2) get a piece of paper and place it on the bottom of the player and rub it gently with your fingernail, this will leave a impression for the exact locations of the plugs (you could use a pencil, I can never find one).
3) drill the holes so your plugs are a nice tight fit. 4) Then glue the leads in. when gluing the leads push the plug right through and then put the glue in the hole.Plug the leads to your player and push the plugs backinto the table. Put two macthes or a spacer between the player and the table to prevent glue gettig on the player. Then allow the glue to set thoroughly before moving the player. Itwill get very messy if you dont wait. I cut a small rectangle of black felt the size of my player, cut two holes in it and fitted it over the plugs (Just for looks).
Then if you want you could make three sides and a back so it looks cool.

That sounds like a good idea, thanks for sharing!
But i was more thinking about sinking the h300 INTO the table. (I don't know what words to use, sorry for my bad english T_T)

Like this - --- = Wooden table
| and __ = the outlines of the H300
and H stands for H300.

----|H |-----
----|__|----

I hope this makes some sense
