What battery to buy, Where to buy it?

Hey Everyone
Thought i would make a thread on which batteries have been sucessfull thus far for our belovered h series daps.
Denny has written an extensive guide on how to actually replace it,
This thread can be found here
But questions as to which batteries actually do the job are cropping up on here lots lately.

Look for brands Newertech or Cameron Sino, edit (but we have had 2 reported problems with ballooning from members with Newertech brands)
there will be dud ones made along the line we have to expect that in this day and age.

Lots of people have bought no name brands from ebay etc but these are really a lottery. As to why someone would
put a dollar battery in their expensive dap is beyond me.

TYPE OF BATTERY?
You will need a 1st/2nd Generation ipod battery, but the wires have to be switched (refer Dennys guide)
the higher the mah rating the longer playtime you will get, but obviously the higher they are the longer they take
to recharge. A 2200mah can take up to 4-5 hours to recharge. I have not seen any above 2200mah made yet.

Some ebayers sell ones in which the wires do not need to be changed, but these are the no name types and have the
same capacity as your original battery.

BRAND
As above, Newertech@ or Cameron Sino, No name are a lottery.

@Few reports of Newertech failures. Cameron Sino are Qantas of the battery world, no crashes

Ebay, scout the listings for above brands or enter 1st 2nd generation ipod batteries in search engine on ebay
(its up to you if you want to try the no name brands)

Lickety Split on ebay has become a fav with myself and lots of others as they are cheap and deliver on time (on my occasions) They also have ones where the wires dont need to be switched, I wont put in specific links as they will expire

Ive a question. Why go with a ipod battery? If you go to dapstore.com you will see that they sell iriver replacement batteries wouldnt that be easier and fit better?

Dapstore have been closed for a while. Their iriver batteries where no more iriver batteries than the ipod batteries. They where just batteries of the correct size with the correct connector polarity. Ipod batteries are batteries of the correct size with incorrect connector polarity.

Dapstore used to be the supply, but since they closed people found a ipod battery would work, also it had a higher capacity than the standard battery thus is a better alternative

Thanks for the info. So when I replace it should I gowith the 2200 mAh or the 2100? is there a difference in the fit?

No same size re fit, the extra 100mah gives you 1-2 hrs extra playtime (depending on your settings), worth it for the extra dollars IMO

What's the diffence between a 1st/2nd gen and a 3rd gen ipod battery?

BTW I'm still getting 14-16hours from my h340 so dont need to replace yet.

Top = 1st/2nd Gen.
Bottom = 3rd Gen.

I got 29 hours play time on my H140 with a 2200mah battery I bought from Hong Kong on an internet auction site. $15 delivered to the US.

Will this battery work with the h340. I think it is very cheap compared to the 2200mah for just 100mah less. Pls reply soon.

I have someone coming form the US so can i get it now and change the battery after 3-4 months while my preset battery totally runs out?

I mean will the battery get spoilt or have the same efficiency when used after 3-4 months

Yep. stick to the known brand names for LiON batteries, like Sony and Dell!

Yes it will work but 100mah will give you 1-2hrs more playtime depending on yr settings, worth the extra imo.
Also batteries have a shelf life so 3-4 months would be ok, if yr current battery is not lasting you should do it.

Store it in the 'fridge for the longest storage life.

Thanks a lot saints for the quick reply.

My battery is still giving a good 8 hrs life so intend to change it when i feel the life is getting really low. My player is a year and 1yr and 4 months old

You may as well do it yourself, its easy enough. I dont know of anywhere you could have it replaced other than sending it back to iriver.

See google or http://www.batteryuniversity.com/ (i dont know if its on there or not). At present the lithium polymer batteries sold for mp3 players and the like arn't actually true lithium polymer anyway. They are hybrid batteries.

The difference is negligible realy.

anyway i'm still waiting for batteries based on capacitors ("condensateur" in french, sorry i'm french hahah ^^). The thing fully charges in 3 seconds only or less, but 25 times less power.... they're working with nanotechnologies to provide us the good thing in 5 years ^^ would be cool for a laptop

vamsimohan_6 : mine was exactly the same, but at 1 year and 7 month 2 weeks, my battery dies, so get one in 2 month max ^^ just in case :-p my battery died sooooo fast.... in 2 days i dropped from 9 hours to 1 hour lol, so crazy

Me too - for a couple of months then down to 3-4 hours again. did it twice. used different no name, Chinese manufactured ebay 2200 mah batteries
This next go round I'll try the Newertech or Cameron Sino. unless someone else in this thread found the killer $15 2200 mah battery

Newertech are made in china
and Cameron Sino are Hong kong(most likely china too)
