Replaced hd-led (smd)

Hi,

I’ve just replaced the red hd-led with a blue one.

I hoped it was a little brighter but hey it works

Snicker.

man, that looks so awesome...i bet that looks a whole lot cooler when you're using it and the HD starts spinning as you're going through songs and the screen lights up to match. I WANT IT.

That's awesome, now it matches the screen..... I didn't realize how cool the 'champagne' players look, especially with the blue.

Yeah, I don't really like the look of the black players. Too...dull if you ask me.

Wow, that looks brilliant, Snicker You definately need to show us how you did it.

Now I have to disagree with this.
Black iHP-140 looks perfect in my opinion!

I am looking forward for the black iSkin EVO cases...

Yes, no more warranty

Here's a quick guide:
Remove the screws:

http://www.watdan.nl/02.jpg
http://www.watdan.nl/03.jpg

pull both caps off:
http://www.watdan.nl/04.jpg

Carefully! open the iriver:
(the wires from the battery are very short)
http://www.watdan.nl/05.jpg

Remove the rubber from the top of the hd.
Now pull the hd out:

Remove the 6 screws:
http://www.watdan.nl/07.jpg
http://www.watdan.nl/08.jpg

Remove the front plate:
http://www.watdan.nl/09.jpg

To create more room(for solder), remove the button (pull up) and a piece of don't know what it is:
http://www.watdan.nl/10.jpg

Desolder the red led of and solder the blue one on.
It sounds easy but they are very small so be careful.
http://www.watdan.nl/11.jpg

And test it

Have fun with it and i'm not responsible for any damage to your iriver

Now that is cool! it's a shame iRiver didn't go for a blue LED in the first place, gadgets always look more expensive than they are when you fit blue LEDs
The blue LEDs in my Canopus ADVC-100 unit (analogue to/from DV converter) help make it look as excellent as it works, cost as much as my iHP-140 and is also worth every penny.

That looks wicked, but my only question is, what is the name of the blue LED component, and where did you get it from?

Thanks

if you can't find a torx-5, go to radioshack, one of their kits has a torx-6 in it, i succusefully opened mine all the way with it

Talking Try this

It's a little larger, but it should fit. Also, it's a blinding bright blue - I've used these on a few PC cases, and it (literally) makes it too bright to sleep in the room!

Electronics Goldmine link

I'm not very good at soldering, AND I just bought my iHP-120 (H120) so I'm not quite ready to crack the case open and resolder the LED just yet!
