DIY Car Mount
I have just finished making this car mount for my iHP-120.
The holder itself is made from 3mm thick perspex, cut to shape and then heated (to make it flexible) and moulded to form a holder shape. It was then sprayed black and lined with felt (to protect the iHP). I also made a metal bracket to attach behind the dash and protrude from between the radio and the surrounding dash, and the holder is mouted onto this bracket. (I've never posted pictures before, so I hope they are ok). Regards Russell

Cool looking car mount Russel!
Although I see that you are using a tape to pass on music to your car stereo. I am very happy that my car stereo has build in line in. If you ask me though I will never make a car mount for me. I have my iHP in my waste bag all the time! So all that I have to do is connect the ihp with my car stereo (with the bundled line cable) while my iHP is still in my waste bag! If I want to change a song I have the remote out of the zipper of the waste bag and clipped to the seat belt  (always wear your seat belt)! I can post some pics if you want...

Before I made this holder I used the remote with the player just sitting under the dash. The problem was that I couldn't see the display on the remote very well and I felt I was spending too much time trying to make out what the display read instead of paying attention to driving. Now, I can see the main display very clearly, can control it easily and there is one less cable draped around (the remote cable).
I wish I had a line-in on my car stereo, although I was pleasently supprised by the sound quality from the tape adapter. Regards Russell

Hi Reddshack,
It was actually reletively easy to build. It took two evenings to actually make the holder and the bracket, one evening to spray them black and then leave to dry, and an hour or so the next evening to assemble the holder to the bracket, glue the felt into the holder and then mount it in the car. I was made with items I had lying around in the garage except for the felt which cost all of 69p (around $1 US) and the black spray paint. This one was originally going to be a trial effort (or a prototype) to see how it was going to go and learn how to make a better one next time. However, I am quite pleased with it the way it is so I may not bother. Regards Russell

Hey Russel - that's great! I've been looking around for something that will do just that on my dash for a while. I've got a phone holder wedged in the coin tray under the stereo and need something to mount the IHP.
How did mount the perspex onto the metal bracket? Glue? And did you just wedge the bracket between the two bits of dash or was it more refined than that?!

Hi harkers,
Yes, it is a bit more refined than that. The perspex holder is bolted to the bracket with small countersunk bolts so that the head is flush with the perspex and then the felt was stuck ontop. The metal bracket is attached behind the dash using an existing facia fixing screw behind the radio as shown in the attached pictures. Also attached are pictures of the bracket & holder before spraypainting. Regards Russell

Hey, nice job! It's a little like my first holder I made some time ago.
 Info on this one was at http://home.comcast.net/~srgilbert1/Iriver/Iriver.html I since redesigned because, #1 I got a new car, and #2 I hated taking it in and out of the case everytime I wanted to use it. Hi SRGilbert,
They both look great. The new one is so simple, I never even thought of using Velcro. That is what's so good about these forums though, they are a good source for ideas to get you thinking. I like your web pages too, it is something I am considering doing with instructions for making a car MP3 holder. It may just give some more people some ideas and tips. Having said that, I have never made a web site before so it may take a while. Regards Russell

My setuup (PIC)
Here's a pic of my setup. After checking out these car mounts i was tempted to make one. But then it hit me like a brick. I thought.....
 Why not use my mobile phone holder in the car?! As you can see, i got the TuneCast II on the side, in a spot where it gets good reception. Yes i know it's not as good as an AUX input but i don't like tampering with my car's stereo system. Everything is being left as is! Sorry about the terrible pic, but it's a damn bright today as u can see.
