H1xx / H3xx Battery Replacement - success or not?
Hi folks
I've read a few threads where people have had problems with replacement batteries swelling up. Was wondering how common this is before I give it a go, to check the odds of knackering my player. So if you've tried changing the battery, how did it go? If your new battery did balloon up, add a post about what happened. Would be handy if you could mention... - what player you've got (H1xx or H3xx) - what capacity battery it was (2200, 2100, 1450 mah, etc...) - what type it was (ionity, ipod 1st/2nd generation, etc...) - if you had any problem during the replacement that might be related, like having to solder wires to the battery or something. Cheers! |

- what player you've got (H1xx or H3xx) iHP140
- what capacity battery it was (2200, 2100, 1450 mah, etc...) 1600mAh - what type it was (ionity, ipod 1st/2nd generation, etc...) Ionity from dapstore.de - if you had any problem during the replacement that might be related, like having to solder wires to the battery or something. no, just plug and play This was more than a year ago. it's working fine and my impressions are that it still has almost full capacity. and I did put my original 1300mAh batt in a 40% charge state into the fridge (not deep-fridge) because it was mentioned on several places this will be the best method for stocking (for longest lifetime). I once have to try how it affected capacity though.

[/color]good poll results so far!
- what player you've got (H1xx or H3xx) H340 - what capacity battery it was (2200, 2100, 1450 mah, etc...) 2200 - what type it was (ionity, ipod 1st/2nd generation, etc...) iPod G1 - if you had any problem during the replacement apart from the standard issues (screen:dust, case:open), a little (well large) flutter when I closed the player up and it didn't turn on :/ . had to open it all up again, do some vague fiddling with the molex, then it worked... Think I crimped a wire a bit in the case, too. No cosmetic damage, although possibly the screen sits out of the case a bit (I can feel the edge of the screenplate) [Edit: disabling smilies]

H320 battery replacement
I just followed the excellant directions on this thread site and bought a Newer Thechnology 2200 battery and after changing the molex plug it just slipped in. The only problem I hab was I had to squeeze the case shut and carefully put all the screws back in. I currently get about 20+ hours of battery time. Thank you for the excallent advice!

I just upgraded my H320 to the Newertech 2200 mAh battery, per the instruction on this site. Tight fit. I had to take off the little black foam pads on the both the blue gaskets b/w the HD and battery and the inside of the back cover in order to get the lid to close and the screws in. The last think I want is unnecessary pressure on the mobo or anything else. It's cramped enough as it is.
I've tested the battery life once so far and it was almost 24hrs. That was with custom eq (more bass), and a little bit of video. I have the LCD set to turn off after 10 sec. I have Rockbox and 1.29 firmware. HUGE improvement over the stock battery.

i need some help about the h320. The battery recently stopped working . At the present time im in Thailand. I sent the H320 for an inspection at a local iriver center. They told me that both the mainboard and battery are burned out, and should replace them both for a price equivalent to 220 US dollars. Is it worth it ? Should I replace them ? I bought it just a 13 months ago and I am not feeling so enthusiastic about iRiver anymore.
also , i wanna know if i upgrade to the 1.29 version, what files I will NOT be able to play ? Will I be able to play music from Napster or Limewire ? |

what player you've got (H1xx or H3xx)
The H320 - what capacity battery it was (2200, 2100, 1450 mah, etc...) 2200 mah - what type it was (ionity, ipod 1st/2nd generation, etc...) Newer Technology NuPower 'Super High-Capacity' 2200mAh - if you had any problem during the replacement that might be related, like having to solder wires to the battery or something. No Problems, worked ok for first week, then expanded until it was like a fat sausage. Seized up the from the pressure of the expansion, but then ran ok when I took it out (battery was still working). I've since run it without the battery using the external iRiver battery pack. Can get 50 hours on three fresh (rechargable) triple AAAs. Awsome! By the way, Macsales replaced it no questions asked, but I haven't reinstalled it yet. |

Player-h120. Battery was newertech 1200 mAh. Fitted in good but I removed rubber and used foam to save having to apply pressure on reassembly. Battery life is only 6hrs. I have another ordered an I will try again. I also made a external battery pack (which works well).EDIT 2200mAh battery.

Did you order a Newertech 1200mAh or a 2200mAh battery?
You want the 2200 as the 1200 is less than the original battery, which would be why you're only getting 6 hours out of it.

Won't play after battery change
H340 was replaced yesterday with a Newer Technology NuPower Super High-Capacity 2200mAh for 1st/2nd Gen iPods. I have been charging the battery all day but it won't stop charging. If I unplug it, the power goes out. I tried to play music an hour ago and it wouldn't play. So I'm wondering if the molex was reconnected properly. We had trouble getting it to reconnect--as if it didn't fit. (A prong sticking up?) I'm not looking forward to reopening it. Must try the external battery pack and see if that works. Hmmm...

Whilst you may get the case to close without filing down the metal lugs on the inside of the back cover, I think the metal lugs should be removed. I did not at first. After closing the case and putting in a couple of screws, I thought the better of it. I then re-opened the case and spent about 1 hour filing the lugs off with a flat metal file - laborious work but I think well worth it - there were lug impressions in the battery from the first attempt. It is possible that damage caused by the lugs pressing on the edge of the battery cause the battery to fail and ballon. |
