POLL: Who would buy a Perpendicular drive ?

Spawned by Crickets' thread, I'm taking a poll to find out how many of you would buy the new perp drives SHOULD my communication with some Toshiba reps go well. (Actually, if I get an answer at all, that would be good too.) It's slightly possible that I might get a drive to test out (no doubt I'd pay for it), but the best case scenario (but don't hold your breath, I'm just being super duper hopeful) would be that they offer Jeff a bunch as a retailer...

I'd love to get my hands on one, assuming they are not unreasonably expensive.

Crickets Thread

Well, the question isn't exactly rhetorical in that should I get a response from someone at Toshiba, and part of it says something to the effect of, "In order for us to fulfil your request, a minimal order of "x" must be ordered."

Hell, I'd be DAMNED lucky to get such a response, let alone one saying "sure, we'll send you a test drive for a review, just send us $$300"

I imagine that a 40 gig 1.8" perp drive would go for about that much.

I would be interested in an 80 gig double platter drive. I'd be willing to buy one if the price was reasonable. 40 gig single platter could be used to upgrade the H120 but since I have an H140 now I can't see doing it.

P.S. glad to see from your user title your baby is now working again

By the way, am I the only one who noticed that both options in the poll are the same. I assume that the first one is yes and the second one is no.

Actually, I assumed that if the answer was no, you just weren't meant to vote...

As with DT, I'd be more interested in larger-capacity double-platter drives - either 60 or, preferably, 80 gigs.
However, price would be the over-riding factor.

Should I have success with aquiring these, I'll post a real poll, but this was correct :

As I'm not interested in those who don't want one as opposed to those who do.

Well, I'm not quite sure about that yet but, I installed the new battery and HD (both stock iRIver) and the battery is still charging. I made the initial mistake of trying to turn it on when I plugged it in and saw the green charge light. I got the Rockbox message of booting firmware, but then a "BATTERY LOW !" message followed by "error -1"

I guess this is a good sign as I only got a check hdd connection error previously. I shall see in another hour or so if it's all go.

i would love an h340 in the (realatively) skinny H320 case!, also, does this mean that since you can get 60 on two platters, you will be able to get 60 on one eventually?

Drumrboy320, I havent heard of a 60gig hard drive that will be able to fit teh 320 yet, since it uses a single platter. But hard drives do get smaller and smaller with time, so I'm sure eventually there will be bigger sizes of hard drives available for the 320.

Sweet Spot - any updates?
