Is the W10 just a tease?
I would suspect that I'm not alone, but I'm getting frustrated with the delays in the release of the W10 and may break down and buy an iPod touch. I would prefer to have a W10 since I would like VOIP and the expansion slot would be useful, too. However, this product is way overdue. I wonder if it will ever be released or if it's one of those products that will never make it to the retail market.

I hope you both are right. However, despite the posting on the EU site months ago and the tease during the summer, there's no reference to the product on the Korean site or the other global sites. Given the fact that they didn't beat Apple out of the gate, I'm starting to think this product may never make it to market. If they don't get it out the door before the 4th Quarter (and the largest holiday buying season) I think it may never be marketed. Makes me wonder if their intended price point was fairly high but is now being forced lower given Apple's pricing of the Touch, to the point that they now don't have the incentive to release their product. That would be such a shame since the W10 outshines the iPod Touch.

I'm wondering this too..
TBH tho mke473, I don't see how you reckon the w10 'outshines' the ipod..? I thought the W10 would be a real killer device but having now had a chance to play with an ipod touch (which is available right now and in 16gb) I have to say I'm very very impressed. I hate Apple products with a passion but not enough to overlook a product that deserves my attention and the touch sems to have most bases covered. Fantastic UI, huge album art display, Wifi, internet browser and a beautiful touch screen. I simply don't see how iriver can compete. Even Apple's battery life and sound quality has improved... what is iriver bringing to the party? |

Why the W10 may be better that the Touch, if it ever goes to market.
gizmo,
From what I've read on Apple user forums, many owners are reporting unwanted noise, which no one wants on a mp3 player. In addition, there's no expansion slot. I'm not sure if the W10 has a removable battery (I'll keep my fingers crossed). Apple certainly doesn't win customer loyalty or affection with it's policy on non-user accessable batteries. Most importantly, the touch screen technology that Apple bought (yes, they didn't develop it in-house) is known to start failing pretty quickly, as evidenced by the number of early iPhone adopters whose screens are already going dead (meaning they're not responsive to touch anymore). What's disturbing is that the media is reporting that the company that Apple purchased the technology from knew about this issue and, one would have hoped, told Apple. If that's the case, what does that tell you about Apple's concerns about its customers. I certainly hope that iRiver releases the W10 next month. I realize it's initial release will probably be limited to Korea and possibly Asia. I can hold off a bit longer, especially now that the number of reports about Apple touch screens experiencing problems is beginning to grow (after less than 6 months use). I don't really want to buy a Touch and have to ship it back to Apple within 6 months either for a dead battery or dead touch screen, especially since their policy seems to be to simply ship you a refurbished model. (Makes me wonder if anyone's silly enough to use the Touch or iPhone to surf to their bank websites or make online purchases with the devices, at least on their home WIFI networks. I hope not.) |

I had a touch, it wasn't that great. after a couple days the internet thing wore off and then after 5 days it died.
I sent it back and am NOT looking back. Im not sure what player I want now. I am not sure I want a touch screen player though. You have to carry it around like a precious infant. |

Hahah
I really want to get a ClixGen2, until I saw the W10. I'd like to know more about this product but they seem so secretive about it. Lets keep our fingers crossed, hopefully it'll becoming out soon!

The product page has severally limited and possibly inaccurate information. Most importantly it does not hint at a release that, although given that it says coming this year we shall see soon enough what the non vapourware W10 is really like...I have been waiting for this thing since CES and so far I am extremely disappointed in iriver

W10 was one of those prototypes, which thankfully has come to life. I'm still waiting for me Unit2.

I'm not sure if crying is allowed on these boards, but if this thing doesn't come out before/during the time I'm in Hong Kong this Christmas break (no tax, yee-uh!) I will cry. That's a threat, iRiver. My river of tears is highly corrosive, and it'll be the end of civilization as we know it.
Sorry. |

I can't believe people think this player is coming out before the end of the year. Seriously.
I'm fed up with waiting for iriver to actually release their product rather than just wave pretty pictures in our faces. |
