Will there be an answer to the iPod Video?

I have been a staunch supporter of iRiver and am a proud owner of an iRiver H-120, however with the release of the iPod video and no news (that I have heard anyways) of an iRiver answer I might be forced to join the dark side. I messed around with one at my schools book store today and the 60 gig was smaller than my H-120.

I would rather not jump ship, but with Christmas coming around the corner how can I not ask for a iPod video when there is no iRiver answer?

Also, am I the only one who realizes how awesome a 30/60 gig U10 would be? Because I can tell you right now, those things would kick the shizznit out of the iPod video.

a 30/60 gig U10 would significantly increase the size and thickness. iRiver's doesn't need a response to the iPod Video, since they were there first, and with Rockbox on the horizon, video playback very well might be increased to more than 10 FPS.

If you're looking for iRiver to release a product to directly compete with the iPod Video, good luck.

Ya, the h3xx series is more related to the ipod video than the pmps I think. The pmps focus on the video heavily w/ the huge screen and non-portability . The h3xx is mainly a music player that happens to play movies, and that's all the ipod video is.

'cept the ipod vid plays them in a slightly better way (i.e. faster fps). i just don't like how the only way to get vids is to buy them...that's just mean, but marketing brilliance.

I think the iPod video is Apples answer to the H300's.. ... ....

And the answer to the OP's [Q]... OF COURSE THERE WILL!

[Q]... Do you think technology will cease to develop any further?

No...you can convert videos. There are programs that do this, I have a friend who has one. Anyways, Ipod video plays videos better, but both are still music players in the end. I mean would you rather want 2+ hours of video or 10+ hours of music (or rather, what did you buy it for: the music or the videos?) Stil...the size of the Ipod makes it pretty tempting to buy .

I bought the h340 for its immense functionality. It was only after I bought it, downloaded the latest firmware and came on here did I realise it also played video, and while it may be only 10fps, for a small device with a small screen, the movies are more than suitable for viewing. If I want top quality pictures and a cinematic experience I use my widescreen hd/tv ready lcd beast.

The h340 is simply a winner and it just kicks ass.

Ipods are increasingly looking like a viable option though I must admit, especially after having recently purchased an ipod nano to go to the gym with, although the ease of using practically any programme to download music and vids and text etc etc is a major plus point for the iriver.

it's bulkier, and doesn't serve as a regular audio player. it's too big to use for just normal music listening. he's looking for a DAP that does video, rather than a PVP that does music...

How about the Archos AV500? It seems to blast everyone out of the water, although I keep on wondering if it can be considered a music player directly to compete with the other players, or if it needs to fall into a separate video/DVR/music player category.

You guys forgot to mention how the PMP hows video out. That is a huge plus. Its like haveing a portable DVD player minus the DVDs. Also im a proud owner of an H320 and even though the size of the iPod video is impressive it also lacks major components that the H3xx series has. Such as radio and USBOTG capability and voice recoreder (not too imortant but still cool.) So even though iPods are sleek and styleish, Apple milks you for all your money by makeing you buy all the accesorys for it. Such as the card reader and iTrip. After you get all that stuf youve spent like 500 bucks and H3xx still do more. Same with the PMP. But i guess its all about what your looking for. If radio and stuff doesnt matter to you than hell go with Apple. But they are a rip off.

Yes. Jobs has finally reached the pinnacle of technological advancement. We are about to enter a dark age, where none but the mighty (cr)Apple-ites shall walk freeeeeeeeeeee.... All the other companies can stop even trying to develop anything else as Jobs is gonna rip off their ideas, repackage them, then sell 'em as his own.

All You Bizzles Hail,
BBD

Is it true that watching video on the ipod drags the battery life down to 2 hrs? Thats what I heard, and if that's true, that sucks.
