zen vision:m = the sexy
I got this for xmas, and all in all is a pretty worthwhile successor to my h120. There's so many reviews on this thing I won't go into details, but I'll glaze over a few things.
Sound quality was my only disappointment and it's pretty minor... it doesn't have as punchy of bass as I'd like. It gets sort of distorted if I turn the low end up too much. Of course I've been spoiled by rockbox the last year or so, so that could be part of my problem The screen is gorgeous, and the video support is fantastic. I don't have to convert anything really. It's supported damn near everything I've thrown at it. It supports custom wallpaper, and you can dim it on the dap itself before applying so it makes the text easier to read. It's the little things people The controls are a bit odd at first but pretty easy to get used to. They stopped shipping AC adapters with them. Luckily they use the same as the PSP and h3xxs and I have a PSP so I lucked out. They use a small plastic adapter that has a mini usb and the ac adapter port. Better than a proprietary cable, but there's still the problem of losing that adapter. The software is basically drag and drop. Very easy and quick. There's a shortcut button you can assign to lots of stuff, like instantly shuffling your entire collection and playing it or playing your highest rated songs. Good idea and convenient. Batt life so far appears decent by stock hdd daps these days. That's about all for now

my friend has a zen vision:m, and i hate it. the scrollpad sucks, the menus are completely insane and the sound quality is horrible. Even on my headphones...
But hey, if you like it, good luck with it. Who knows, rockbox might get to it eventually. =P

what i said stands. compared with a H10, it's sound quality is really crap, and the menus are just horrible to navigate - it's too sensitive (Even Rockbox's menus work better - and they don't even scroll like that on a H10) and can you say "iPod rip-off"?
Anyway, each to their own. I used to be obsessed with iPods, but then i realized they ain't all that brilliant, and moved on. And as for saying it about "Such a great player" well, if you like it (Menus, scrollpad) that way, that's fine. You're the one who has to live with it. =P

The Zen Vision M is a great player, so is the Ipod 5.5G, so is the H3XX, so is the H1XX, so is the H10, so is any other DAP as long as they are great to the respective owner. There is no need to criticize any of them, unless it's for constructive criticism to advise a person if they plan to purchase one. Saying it's crap or something similar is downright useless and simply should be avoided.

Okay! sorry if I offended anyone, I'm just giving my opinion.
Yes, i have to agree that saying it's crap is useless. Here's here's the non-"it's crap" version: - The scrollpad is a tad sensitive for my liking. - The sound quality is (IMHO) nothing to write home about. And yes, i know creative sued apple, but apple counter-sued for other interface elements.

The scrollpad sensitivity can be adjusted, so that complaint is already nullified by a feature that you/your friend overlooked. Plus like I said it does take getting used to. Diddling your friends isn't going to get you enough practice especially when owning another touch-pad controlled dap. Also the menu is fully customizable, down to the color and where things are at. If you don't filter things by genre/year/etc, then you can disable that menu option leaving only what you want! It's pretty fantastic so again, a complaint made nullified by an already established feature. The sound quality is the only thing that I've disliked... and if you're using rockbox than it's obvious why you don't like it as well. It doesn't sound great flat but it sounds really nice once you play with the EQ. And I can't remember who said it (Step or SS maybe?) but they made the damn good realization that sound quality is really subjective. If I didn't like really punchy bass than my SQ 'complaint' would be gone. Lots of folks don't like how the e2cs sound but I love them.

If it played gaplessly, I would have chosen this one over an iPod. For me, gapless playback was too big of a feature to miss.

Good point. I don't listen to seamless albums all that much though so it wasn't a buy-breaker for me.
