DBScan - am I doing something wrong?

I have the latest firmware on my PMP-120 and have around 1500 files, as far as I can see all properly tagged and in folders. I carry out a DB scan after adding new files (I get 76 errors) but when I start the unit it never offers me the ability to browse by Album, Artist etc. If I do it manually that option is available but only until I switch off, all then returns to the previous state. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Gary

You need to have a database on the player for DBscan to work properly

What exactly is DBScan?

READ THE MANUAL. try to get the method described in it to work for you and then take it from there. If it doesnt work then the device or software is the problem. The key to isolating a problem is just that making sure all other posibilities are not the cause. If you have an electrical fault on a machine you dont waste time going to the shop you check the fuse first ant then the plug and MCB. Then you take it back. Try the basic methods and see what is the problem.

Perhaps if the manual was a little more helpful then I would. Thank you for your condescending reply.

Thank you for failing to bother. I read it and managed it fine on my PMP as did many others. Your tone is the one to worry over.

Mixin has no idea of you abilities.

I am offering a method of trying to isolate the problem and sorting it without going into depths of jargon. Mixin and others offer their time freely to help as do I if you are not going to be gracious and get a reply and be civil as we try to see where the problem lies then leave now.

Regards
A

No was just fine. I cant stand when people post. "x doesnt work" as their basic post and expect us to work it out. The PMP is a bit more advanced than your average walkman so excuse me if I would like to avoid getting it fried unless you would like extreem measures. The fact remains that this poster was very blunt and not very polite to mixin. We are trying to help. I capitalise to imply importance. Therefore READ THE MANUAL suggests to read it then try not the otherway round and work out how to fix yet another problem.

the problem with text is that all those other cues we use to understand somebodies mood are not there.

the other problem is that those who are having these sort of problems are not likely to know what is needed by those who can fix them. if they knew that, they could probably fix the problem themselves.

capitals are generally construed as SHOUTING.

i read many, if not most of your posts, and you are generally helpful and kind. but some do misinterpert your posts on occasion.

if i could be so bold as to offer just a little advice it would be to add a little text or icon kindness, it sets the tone of the message at a more gentle level

I would but hate emoticons. Therefore we have a problem here. Its like FG when he meets a pack of dogs/wolves. Not a pretty site. I know the way forums work. I have been using them for years and generally move from one to another and rarely settle this long. I may be here to stay.

I would consider myself a competent computer user, having been in the industry for many years. I have READ THE MANUAL (shouting isn't very nice is it). I merely return to my original question where I politely asked if my workflow was correct. Whatever you say, the iRiver software is not very intuitive, for example, there is no explanation as to what these 76 errors are and why they have not been catalogued. Is there a certain number of errors past which the DB does not catalogue them and why, after a manual scan, can I not browse by tag information following a restart?

It is this information I was seeking and as for my tone, I don't know how you can possibly gauge that.

Please Don't Use Acronyms Unless They Are In VERY Common Usage,
OR You Don't Want People To Know What You Are Talking About.
(Or It Doesn't Matter)

TIA

The Duelist

Edit: The Answer To Your Query (and Mine) Is Within:
What exactly is DBScan?

Duelist, it is well know among most members what TDT is, and also outbursts like that are a bit uncalled for. A simple search of TDT on this site or google will answer the question of what something means.

Thanx Guys

I Guess My (Un)subtle Point Was:
Posts In Forums Should Be Pitched At A LCD Audience,
(That's 'Lowest Common Denominator', Not 'Liquid Crystal Display')
And Be As Clear As Possible.

BTW: The Edit To My Original Post Was A Link That Answered Both The Original Query & Mine.
