Cant Connect

I have XP home, and tried attaching my pmp-140. It worked the first time, but now no matter what I do it wont connect. Windows XP dosent recognize the drivers on the CD as they are for 98. When I connect it says "Unknown Device. A device on this usb hub has malfuntioned."

I've tried everything i can think of.... My GFs H340 works fine.

Right try diectly connecting to the USB ports not through a hub. If this fails check you are porting using the port labeled USB 2.0 device not USB 1.1 host. install the PMP manager and other software and see if this helps.

i tried the usb port that intergrated with the MoBo. I updated the support for the usb hub, and I installed the PMP detect....

I got it to connect after about 15 trys, but after i disconnected, i tried again, and it didnt work... it seem kinda random.

Hmm have you tried the player on another win XP cd if it still fails to work send it back as its clearly a problem with the USb if it fails to work on another PC. Finally check that windows is upto date with "windows update" and if you dont have it get SP2 it seems to ease a lot of these USB problems.

I have noticed that my PMP is usually slow to connect, the XP connection sound takes a minute or so to happen, then right after it will pop up the Autoplay selector. I also have had one time where it would not connect, I would get the XP connect sound immediately followed by the disconnect sound. The solution there was to powercyle the PMP, it connected after that. My RIO Nitrus also takes a minute or so to connect, but no other USB peripherals do that on my machine, the others register instantly. Could be a driver conflict with something else I suppose.
