PMP100 Firmware 2.01
As mentioned on the first page iRiver have now released a new firmware for the PiMP, details here.
Anyway, I have downloaded and installed the firmware update, nothing too difficult but I did have the same old problem with the Korean being the default language upon restarting, have a read of the 1.25 firmware thread for more instructions on how to fix that. I didn't actually find the mediaconverter program tho, so I will have a look around for that later on. I will give any negative\postive feedback after playing with it tomorrow (it's nearly 11.30pm over here now). |

i have just ordered my pmp-120 and i can't wait for it to arrive but alreday now i'm interested in upgrading the firmware - so i have this question - do i have to install previous upgrade (v1.52) to upgrade to v2.01?

Firmware is upgrading everything. SO to go from v1.2 to 2.01 you can just skip installing the middle (1.52) one as 2.01 will have the 1.5's one as part of the upgrade.
So just go for broke Some people advise to upgrade in steps and take a day with the player to get used to the firmware and then if you feel the latest one is too different (upgrades not to you liking) downgrade to your favourite firmware and you will know what one that is!! |

So i have a pmp-120 and i know it supports 8-bit games, but when is iriver gonna give us some! ok i know this is a bit much to ask of iriver, they spend forever on seemingly insignificant features and a game program would be quite time consuming but cmon they should at lease realease a module that allows people to write their own games if they dont have the time...
its built like a game system, it has a TFT full color screen, and on top of all this you have an unlimited library of music to listen to while playing... cmon iriver dont let me down now! |

astec123 - thanks for the answer! i think i'll just play with my pmp when it arrives!
oh - another thing - if not to difficult ----> how is the quality of the picture when connect a pmp to a tv? thanks! |

Now, being an iHP'er, I'd like to say I know a lil' bit about the probability of an iRiver FW that gives you what you asked for, actually materialising |

I'm not sure why everyone keeps referring to it as '8-bit' gaming. The ARM7 processor is 32 bit. True it will not be able to play very complex games due to the small memory footprint, and difficulty of porting complex applications to a MMU-less chip, but the 'bits' have nothing to do with it. |

Just a heads up for people upgrading their Media Converter software, you need to ensure that you have the 5.2.1 Divx codec installed, unfortunately the software now uses that codec but it won't install it for you, that's what caused my initial errors when I was using the upgrade. I personally don't like the 5.2.x codec because I believe that's what's caused all of the problems with the Archos unit but time will tell how this one goes.

remember that the sega mastersystem was 8 bit! a long time ago
The reason people are saying 8 bit is due to that being what iRiver promote, also the player has little or no memory appart for the HDD and flash mem inbuilt so cannot proform blistering games proformance, this means that though it has a 32bit processor it is 32bit to play the movies the player takes, not the games. |

I have a PMP-120. I have the 1.25 firmware. But try as I might I can't upgrade to 2.01. I place the .tar file in the root dir of the PMP but when I go to Upgrade Firmware it says none found.
When I tried to manualy copy the files in the .tar file I get a Boot Failure (thank god I keeps a backup) Any hints or a *good* step by step guide to install the 2.01 firmware? There is a couple of file in the .zip file. what do I do with them (besides putting the .tar file in the root dir?)

Hi,
Bought my PMP-140 yesterday here in Australia. I am not sure if this has been posted before, but for those who upgraded to 2.01 or have difficulty in setting the Korean text back to a readable language Now if I can just find the iRiver SDK, I could start writing iRiverInfoPro cheers NicW Author DVDInfoPro www.dvdinfopro.com Last edited by nicw : November 29th, 2004 at 03:15 PM. |
