Unhappy Broken PMP-140 - sound turns on, nothing else!

I've browsed the posts here, and goshdarn, but there are some very clever people! Nothing I've read seems to be exactly what's wrong with mine, except one, and that's scary, so I'm going to list the problems anyway.

I've dropped my PMP once or twice before, and it's been fine. I have an American charger, so I use an Irish adapter and charge it at home - again, all is always fine.

I went to Australia and my brother was watching something on it when the battery ran out. It was left on a table and fell to the floor not far away. I plugged it in that night (using 2 adapters USA->Irish->Australian) and the green light came on - all seemed well.

But the next day it would not turn on.

There is a whirring noise, but the screen remains blank (as in OFF blank, not black blank). Once or twice the Hold screen flashed, and there are no visible cracks of big or minute proportions, so I'm asuming the screen is actually okay.

I also can't turn it off when it's in this state. I have to take out the battery, and when I put it back in the whirring starts again.

When I connect it to the computer, the screen starts fine, everything loads up and I can access all the files through the computer.

Nothing is going to be lost if I erase everything, but at the same time I don't want to mess up my PMP. The reset button did nothing when I clicked it.

Can anyone please please PLEASE help me?

One more problem - the serial number has been smudged off the back of the device. I haven't checked, but I assume it's on the box somewhere. If not, is there any way I can retrieve it? (I bought the PMP over AmazonUK Marketplace).

Im having the same exact problem..

one day I left it on playing music in my book bag by mistake for about 2 hours..afterwards I looked at and just continued listening to music...minutes later it began to mess up songs so I just figured I needed to turn it off and then turn it back on..

after I turned it off It wouldnt come back on at all..All I hear is a clicking noise on the speaker when ever I try to turn it on..

I thought it was the battery so I let it charge and still the same problem...

MARYMC mine only starts up on the computer like yours..Only difference is that I have the pmp- 120..

Also when I try to charge it now the clicking noise in the speaker never goes away..the only way it seems to charge is by plugging it up to the computer..

If anyone has any suggestions please REPLY

Sounds exactly the same. Clicking and whirring constantly, no screen, battery seems weird, maybe...
