Won't Turn ON - clueless about what to do

Hello guys! I'm new to this forum, and I'm really hoping you could help me out. I just received my iRiver today, and it won't turn on. I tried changing the battery, and the green light on top will tun on, but the iRiver still won't turn on. i tried to reset it, but still it won't turn on. What should I do? Is this thing broken? I'm not a techie guy, and I don't really know what to do.

Try taking the battery out and putting in back in.

Also how long did you charge it?

I've been reading for the past 2 hours in this website looking for a thread with a similar problem like mine. So now, I've removed the battery and leaving it off for 6 hours. I initially tried to charge the battery for 1 hour. Was that too short? I'm just concerned because the PC can't recognize the PMP as an external hard drive. Thanks for your reply!

Your PMP should turn on if the battery is connected to it and you are using the DC Adapter. If it doesn't then you don't have a battery problem.

I think you need to charge the battery for at least 3 hrs.

I've had similar problems w/my PMC when the battery was completely flat.

A good solid charge corrected the problem.

Incidentally, it has happened on more than 1 occasion.

Good Luck

I connected it to the DC adapter with the battery on, and the green light turned on. But the PMP won't power on. Does that mean it's defective?

I was suggesting you use the DC Adapter, not connecting it to the computer, and powering it on.

Tried that too. Charged the battery for 4 hours, connected it to the player, it won't turn on. Connected it to the DC adapter, still won't turn on. Connected it to the PC, no power!!! I'm desperate! Does the fact that my PC can't sense it as an external hard drive have any significance? Thanks a lot!!

Your PC not detecting the PMP has nothing to do with it not starting up.
You should be able to start up the PMP without the battery by using the AC adapter.
If it does not start up then I would have to assume that the PMP is defective and needs repair.

Thanks... I've figured out by now that it's defective. I'm now trying to find out where I can have it fixed. Apparently, the seller on ebay wrote in VERY FINE PRINT that it has no warrantly. Guess I'm to blame too. Thanks a lot guys!!

The iriver Store at misticriver might fix it.

Then again if it is indeed new, you should be able to RMA it w/iriver.

This may be redundent, but it never hurts to check the obvious. You are holding the power button (and not the record button or anything else) down to turn it on right? And the TV/Hold/LCD switch is on LCD I assume. Warrenty or not, I would think someone would at least have tried to turn it on before selling it.

That's exactly what I was thinking too EdrickVelLorin but, if his player was set to TV he would still be able to see the logo and if it was on Hold, he would've seen "Player on Hold" screen for 2 seconds and shut back off. But yeah it's good that you asked him to check on that. Good thinking.
