I need help with my PMP-140!!!
I just purchased a refurbished PMP-140 player on eBay and I could really use some help getting it up and running. When I plug the USB into my computer and turn the device on, it recognizes it as an external storage device and I'm able to open the files on the device, but I can't sync it with any programs on my computer. I've tried installing all of the device updates and firmware and still I get nothing. I've tried to update the media converter, but I don't have the original serial number for it. Even with the supplied serial number that tech support gave me, the "next" button isn't able to be pressed. All I'm able to do is drag and drop music files into the browser on the device and then only about 1/2 of the files actually play. The rest of the files skip really bad. In order to get alot of the files to play, I have to convert the .wma files to .mp3. That's going to take a LONG time to do my whole library just to get them to play in this machine. When I do get files loaded on the PMP-140 I can play them and they are fine, but when I run a DB scan to get artist, album and genre listings, I can't play any of the files through the DB list. When I delete the music files from the browser, the files aren't deleted from the DB list on the device. Another thing that is happening is when I put a movie file into the player, I'm not able to FF or REW while the movie is playing.
I'm getting really, really frustrated with this thing but I want to like it. I've been using a 20gb H10 player for a long time and I thought this would be a perfect upgrade. I'm not a fan of the iPod, but if this continues, I'm going to have to make the switch. I've been reading alot of the posts in here from other people with the same issues, so I hope someone out there can help me out. Otherwise, this thing is going back on eBay and I'll have to check out another media player. Thanks for your help! |

Only the PMC can sync with Windows Media Player. The pmp does not have that ability.
Every PMP has the same problem playing WMA's., your best bet is to encode your music as MP3's. ...When I delete the music files from the browser, the files aren't deleted from the DB list on the device.... You have to rescan the DB for deleted files to be removed. ...when I put a movie file into the player, I'm not able to FF or REW while the movie is playing. If the movie file is larger than 700mb you can not FF or REW. Try converting the file with a xvid encoder to reduce the file size. Every problem you have has been covered on this forum already so try searching next time. Welcome to MR. |
