Pmp 120 firmware/xp recognizing problem

hello all,
I recently purchased a pmp 120 off ebay, and of course it had to come without any cables, cds, manuals... i purchased a cable, and have had no luck with any manuals, i was wondering where i could get a pdf version of the manual.

also, when i first got the pmp i would plug it in, and i would get an IO error, making me unable to browse the pmp, i tried formatting (quick format, FAT32) and recieved an error halfway through- but device still functioned properly, i unhooked the pmp, and re-booted, and low and behold i get a boot error- and when i try and plug it back into my PC, it is recognized as a mass storage device, but not in mycomputer- when i try and get details in Device Manager i get a "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" error. currently, there is no way to access the pmp or format it, computer managment doesnt even recognize it as a disk drive...

any help much apreciated, thanks

The reason you got a boot error I think is because you didn't copy over the iRiverSys folder after reformatting. Shamrockman's website has info on what to do when you get a boot error. The XP thing I'm not sure about, but I'd start by removing the driver, unplug the PMP, reboot, and then plug it back in. If you can get it to show up in My Computer as a drive, you should be able to fix the boot failure problem.

As far as your original question, the iRiver international site (www.iriver.com) has the manual as well as the PMP Manager and Win98SE driver available for download. However, at this particular moment it looks like that site is down. It was working yesterday, and from other comments it sounds like it goes down intermittently. iRiver America has the manual but not the other stuff. (http://www.iriveramerica.com/support/multi/pmp100.aspx)

Shamrockman's website is here:
www.shamrockman.net
He's got a guide for dealing with boot failure as well as the files you'll need if you can get it working as a drive again. (Or at least the files for the Korean 2.04 firmware. If you're using the EU version you might want to get the EU files from iRiver Nordic: http://www.irivernordic.com/data/pro...04-sysfile.zip Not sure if they're different or not, but better safe then sorry.)

It may be that the drive is physically damaged. If that's the case, it is possible to replace the drive.
