Some weeks ago, I changed the standard 20GB HD with my 40GB HD. But when I start the player, it doesnt work really. I saw that the windows is in the memory of the player not on the HD. What must I do??? Should I format the 40GB HD (on the HD are still music files) or do I need a special software???? It's a bit complicated. thx for help regards agent-orange |

Agent-orange: So the Windows operating system isn't stored on the hard-drive? Can you see the start menu after booting up with the 40GB and select menu options? Or do you get a black screen?
My take on it is: if the OS is stored on the HD, which I may have to check with some diagnostic utility to see, then you should be able to use norton ghost to make an image of the hd and then restore it on the 40gb. After that, reconnecting should be a snap and it should work. If it's in some sort of EEPROM or the like, then perhaps there'll be a specific type of HD which the PMC is compatible with, and the thing will automatically interface with the drive. However, I haven't tried anything with my PMC, so I'm just shooting in the dark currently.

@Sagittarius
The player boot on. But the player doesn't boot the windows. It comes a picture with some things on it, I don't remember it. But I think, I must format my 40GB and then I can use the HD. But at the moment are some music files on the hd and the player can't format the HD. So it doesn't recognize the hd. I order a hd case for the 1.8" hd, that I can format the hd. regards agent-orange |

Thanks for the information, Agent-Orange.
If formatting the HD doesn't work, I think you may need to make a copy of the old hard drive and transfer it to the new 40GB.

Thanks for the link but the link is for a PMP. Not a PMC.
PMC is a portable media center created by microsoft. PMP is a portable media player created by linux. So if anyone could help me fix my pmc. I would really appreciate it. Need a ghost copy of there pmc hard drive. Thanks |
