PMP Battery wont charge
Hello
I bought a iRiver PMP-120 4 months ago on Ebay (emilyandlily, USA). I live in Holland so the American AC Adapter wouldn't work here. That's why I used to charge it with the USB cable. Until a week ago it worked fine, but then it just stopped charging anymore. When I still had a 1 bar of battery I connected it to my PC and the PC couldn´t recognize it. Then the battery went empty, and connecting it to the PC didn´t charge (the yellow ´charge´ light DID turn on). So I bought a new adapter and set the Voltage on approximatly 5V. When the Adapter is connected, the yellow light burns, and the PMP turns on correctly, showing me 2-3-4 bars of energy, but as soon as I remove the adapter, the PMP doesn't last more than 15 minutes (however, in the 15 minutes it lasts the computer DOES recognize it when I connect it with the USB cable). When I try turning it on without the Adapter, even after hours of charging, it still says LOW BATTERY. Does anybody know what's wrong? Is it the Battery or the charging system of the PMP? And since I bought it on Ebay from the USA, do I have any warranty ? I know this is not the first post about this problem, but none of the posts I've seen contain a good solution (btw most of these posts are also old).

maybe you should try changing the battery. my pmp that i also bought from emilyandlily is now having troubles. it doesnt power up at all, it just makes a weird popping noise from the speaker. also when the power is plugged in i just get the same popping noise repetatively. the only warranty you get from emilyandlily is their own 90 day one, i have searched and searched for a way for the iriver warranty to be legit but it just isn't

Used mine with a car adaptor, which did the same to my battery, it may have been responsible for my hard drive dying too at a later date, I have a new drive, and got two new batterys, now that they are not like rocking horse crap, and i also bought a external power pack which holds 4xAA which is great, a usb power supply, which also doubles up with an adaptor for the car, also got a very nice holder that is a suction cup that sticks to the windscreen and holds my 140, what with the old pocket divx for conversion, which takes off the decription etc, rips and writes a film for the pmp in about 1 hr 15mins its now the ideal companion when i am away(trolley dolley on air new zealand) got some 15 full films and music dvds, thousands upon thousands of mp3 tracks, and photos of the wife, kids and for some reason the bloody cat!! would not be without it, I would grab yourself a battery or two cos despite my hate of the thing for months, it now runs how it should, i too bought second hand privately, so there might be a lesson to be learnt, sorry to waffle on, have a good one!!

Sounds like the same thing my laptop computer is doing. Battery just won't hold a charge anymore. So it's time to buy a new battery. iRiver still sells them new.
http://iriver.com At least a PMP battery won't cost as much as a new laptop battery. |

Maybe try getting a converter plug so that you can plug the US charger into the wall... Your issues might just be that the USB charging function has given up from so much use, and the other adapter you bought is not providing the proper power supply. If not I'd prob say go with the other guys suggestions and try a new battery
