Youtube videos to PMC -- quick, easy & free method !!

I'm a great fan of youtube and similar sites, and have amassed a nice little collection of videos that are great to carry around on the pmc.

WMP cannot directly take .flv files, so you will need to convert it to a different format. Ive tried different software that does direct conversion to wmv, but it results in wmvs that either have no sound or play with a jitter in the PMC.

After trying many different ways to get them onto the pmc, I thought I'd share this *stress free* and quick way of doing it.

Give this a try:

Download "FLV Encoder" .... it's FREEWARE !
you can download it here CLICKITY!

Then >
1. Select your .flv file
2. Select the output directory
3. Choose the "PMC friendly" settings - these are the MOST important
*Rez: 320 x 240 (can leave de interlaced on or off)
*Audio Bitrate : 128

4. Select an output location to save it to.

5. now, the VITAL bit, to get it to output to a different file format - change the extension to whatever.mpg see - my example below:

6. Press ENCODE. Depending on the duration of your flv clip, its usually VERY quick. (of course it also depends on your system speed)

Now, drag that MPG video file into WMP and let it do the conversion to WMV.

**You can indeed try changing the output to .wmv in FLV Encoder, but I found the output result is not pmc friendly...with jumpy audio and video, sometimes no audio etc. If anyone can come up with a direct way in FLV encoder - please let us know !

happy conversions
Astro

Ps-
(just a note - this little guide has assumed you know how to save videos from youtube etc. For those that havent done this before, try the firefox browser with the "videodownloader " and "unplug" extensions. Read the instructions for these extensions - theyre pretty straightforward)

So far i have been using ReplayConverter (flv. > wmv) Xilisoft (wmv > WMV) then WMP. I will give this a go and report on my progress.

Cheers.

i'd try an uninstall followed by a registry cleanup. Then give it a go. If that fails re download the app. Also check if there anything like an antivirus proggie interfering with it ??

cheers

Yeah, some antivirus must have blocked the script of the programme... try disabling auto-protect...

Thumbs up FLV Encoder & other tools

Hello to all,

I'm new in this forum and I read a lot of post concerning the different video encoders & rippers for the PMP.

I take one few days a go PMP-140. So, I'm very happy with this player.

Concerning the video formats I use the "Amadis DVD Ripper" or the "123 DVD Ripper" and the DivX 6.2.5 codec.

- 640x480, 25 fps, 192 kb audio at 48000.

- DivX: 1300 kbits, 1 pass, quality better, AV synchronisation, keyframe at 150 frames.

The quality of videos is perfect also playing on TV.

Proccess is long (02:00 hours per one movie of 01:50) but the results is really good and the AV synchronisation is perfect.

I try to download the FLV Encoder to test, but no way.Maybe another link?

Thanks & bye

not sure what you mean by metacafe. Please clarify. My example is using saved flv file on your HDD. To get the flv from a site to your HDD, you will need a plugin(in Firefox) like videodownloader and unplug.

cheers

Install the drivers on the software disc !

Its already onboard. No firmware upgrades are required(or available)

Quote:

not sure what this is....maybe its something for the pmp ??

Quote:

nope.no recording. if you want that - get an archos. The PMC is best utilised by those running widows media center - but can run in plain ole xp or other OS(dont forget to install those drivers though!)

Quote:

all you need is on the disc. theres nothing on the iriver site for the pmc last i checked

Quote:

pmc-120 converts movie files and mp3s to windows media format. You can use other third party conversion programs but its easiest to do it all within windows media player's sync capability. How to do it is all within the manual supplied with the unit.

just tried it 20 secs ago. The 'videodownloader' and 'unplug' extensions in firefox are still working great. youtube have recently changed the graphics if the embedded player but with thsee plugins you can still download them. If you havent used them before look them up on firefox . they work!!

cheer
