hi all... got my PMP120 a while back now, didnt even think of coming on here or searching for stuff on the internet or anything; to my loss, it seems... been researching firmware upgrades a little, finally thought i had my head around the upgrade process but then i realised i didnt have a root file to load the .tar into so a few general questions if you may folks; i have searched the forums by the way, but a lot of explinations seem way over my head, so apologies in advance if im useless and confused by things which to you seem simple... 1. WMA files wont play. (this seems to differ between PMPs, some have this problem and some dont?) 2. Skipping - even total system crash - when the PMP ges knocked (even slightly) ...(this too seems to differ between PMPs, some have this problem and some dont?) 3. Root folder (as above mentioned...i dont appear to have one? so im struggling with firmware upgrades and such) 4.) Warranty issues - if i upgrade to a non US firmware (even though im in the UK?...) will my warranty be void? it runs out soon anyway though... I'd just like to get my PMP fully functioning to the best of its ability! Many thanks in advance! Jj |

Im preety useless at the technical stuff, but i can help with the WMA files:
The PMP will have issues with 96Kbs and up, so if you want to play WMA files put them into 64Kbs and there should be no issues. This equates to about 128Kbs MP3... |

The root folder is simply where all the folders are, like C:/ on your computer.
If you want to upgrade your PMP search the forum you'll find all the informations.

cheers both of you...
looks like im gonna have to convert everything to 128 kbps maximum then? hopefully that will stop the sofware crash/skipping problem... thats gonna take a loooooong time... as its like, 20 gig of music basically at the moment. what software would people recommend for this? cheers again J |

oh, cool, at least thats one problem sorted then. the vast majority of my files are wma anyway so thats no huge problem.
any ideas as to why it would skip/freeze? when knocked... e.g. if i have it in my pocket and it knocks against my leg as i walk... |
