Help On Black Lines
Hey guys you seem really helpful and i was wondering if you knew why this happened.
Ok i have been encoding movies etc with iriviter and was wondering why the cartoon movies which are widescreen play with the normal black lines top and bottom of the PMP but the actual real movies with humans play with this black lines plus more. Also is there anything you can do about it as it makes the screen about half the size after you have all these black lines put on? Ok here is the cartoon movie that i encoded at the res of 320x240 700kbps 128kbps mp3 audio and the picture is alright and i dont mind the black lines to much but it would be nice if i had the full picture. ![]() Ok and here is the actual human movie encoded exactly the same with all the same settings but the outcome has even more black lines ![]() Any help on this would be great because i dont care if i have to stretch their faces a little i just want to have the normal black lines at top and bottom not the extra ones as well. Also the if you can fix any of this the program which i could use for it would be great and can iriviter do anything about this. Thanks |

Hey,
theres a few issues with the pocket divx encoder when trying to resize the window, as it doesnt let you save the changes you make. I took the time to send the creator an email and they replyed really interested in the issues. So if you give me a few days i might be able to help a bit more. |

Hey, I used Xilisoft to reformat the picture on a movie that looked the same as your lower picture there (Harry Potter?) as it was tough to watch.
After formatting the aspect ratio to fit the screen it didn't dawn on me that the movie would either have the sides cut off considerably or the image would be stretched. The second I played the movie and the Warner Brothers logo looked rated malformed I realised that it wouldn't work. I flicked on to see Harrsion Ford had a face as long as a horse. I don't know a whole lot about aspect ratio's and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but it depends on how source material is formatted. If you are backing up form your own DVD you'll have to pick a ratio that will make it more fitting to other screens.

Hey i am just wondering why when i playback any movie on any of my real dvd's i have bourght it plays with very small black lines or none on my tv which is not widescreen but when i make a backup for my PMP it because so much black that half the picture is gone. Also i tryed pockerdivxencoder and all i got was video that was green and white flashing etc wouldnt play like it was wrong codec but sound was playing. Video was xvid so pocketdivxencoder doesnt work to good. Also i tryed 1click dvd to avi and made a video but it played back jerky like it was playing frames rougly so i am about to give up as i cannot use anything but iriviter and iriviter has no controls to select a different aspect ratio which i need to minimize a bit of the black lines. Any help would be great guys.

The dvd's playing back on the TV vary all the time. Most TV's will adjust the picture to either stretch it out, or cut off the edges. I find the best way to playback on the PMP is to cut off a tiny part from the edges, as well as slightly stretch the picture. Thus giving the biggest screen coverage with least amount of distortion/ cut off.
This is pocketdivxencoder with the settings that I use. IT plays back on the PMP with no issues, and has a great help area if your stuck. Make sure that you have a play around with the 'advanced options' to optimize it to your taste...(as in quality, either for just on the iriver, or in the iriver format but for playback on a TV) ![]() This is the adjusted version of the picture on the PMP screen. You get to this through the 'Change' button. ![]() If theres anything anyone doesnt understand give me a yell. I back Pocket Divx 100%, because i find it the easiest to use as well as having the best results!! Jake |
