Cool WMA skipping on selection

Done search and couldn't find anything so hope I'm not doubling up and if I am can someone put me in right direction.
Right the problem: I have a PMP-140 with firmware 2.04.

Most of my music is in WMA format (as I can distinguish whether its mine - WMA or someone elses's MP3) and I find an annoying bug in that when I select a track the PMP consistantly skips through the track (like fast forward). If I press reverse (left) it will go to begining of track and plays normally.

I have looked at all the settings and am about to try MP3's etc to see if it happens to all music. On occassions it comes up with 'Incompatible Format' but this hasn't been seen since firmware upgrade.

Welcome all comments on how to fix or whether it is just a WMA bug.
