PMP-120 Linux

I'm not asking for anything, I'm pointing out and asking for facts.

If someone can get the CPU instructions and other interfaces, can't we just change the Master Boot Record and install DSL (Damn Small Linux)? I have tried DSL on a 66mhz 486, and works quite fast, so on a 100mhz shoudn't it be fast too? Also it supports USB, so we can use Linux drivers for the wireless networking, or add a keyboard, or even a USB hub to do all that stuff, and run more stuff than ever? Like a PDA (I know that people will say, then GET A Dedicated PDA!, I have one NX-70v) But my point is different, it will play more videos, more codecs, DRM Audio, DRM Video, Internet, Games, Office applications (with USB keyboard with drivers) and much more possibilites, so can anyone tell me what is required to have these? To install Damn Small Linux system to the PMP-120? Linux OS is compatible with ARM7 Processors, and we have the Source codes, and we can get the GFX/SFX card drivers for it too, thanks for reading...

Have you read through the two threads dealing with PMP firmware and software? You can download the manufacturer's software - there's a link towards the end of one of the threads - and the stuff that the folk here have derived.

I like your thinking, and if you were to get DSL working with the manufacturer's code, that could be quite awesome!

what i mean is, wipe out all boot records, and the firmware in the RAM and Harddrive, get a hard-coded USB application that lets you edit the OS, install a resource-limited Linux, basically the PMP has a 100mhz Processor 32mb (or w/e) of SD-RAM, 2D Video Accelerator, Audio, Radio Transmitter, TV-Out, Line in, Line out, Audio Acceleration, and a 320x240 screen, it can turn into a small limited computer, and unlimited possibilities if Linux gets working, all the drivers can be made since it is a PC OS, and more USB Possibilities, we can hook a USB hub, one for keyboard, one for mouse, one for Wi-Fi, and maybe one for VGA Out card. If we get it working with all Hardware acceleration possible, we can put Linux with Internet Browsing, games like Doom, Starcraft, Warcraft 2, Movies more codecs, DRM Audio, basically a handheld computer.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the PMP is not as powerfull as you may think. The main bit of the PMP's OS must fit in a 4mb space. Also since the PMP uses emeded hardware, it is nothing like standard computer hardware. The PMP does not even have 2d graphics accelleration(they just use cute tricks in software). The computing ability of the PMP is crippled since it lacks a few important bits that were cut out to save money, and emulating them uses up most of the PMPs very limited resources. Also, the PMP's "radio" is a nifty software/hardware trick, and its impossible to turn it into a effective transmitter.

The PMP is quite a bit slower than a PDA

The PMP does have alot of potental do to its USB host port, but since USB devices can draw up to 500mA, it will shorten your battery life to around 15 minutes.
