PMP-120 appears to be dead
My son's PMP-120 just "quit working". It starts to boot up (screen comes on with iRiver logo), but that's it. The red light for the HDD stays on, and it never gets to the "loading OS" text at the bottom.
It's only ~7 months or so old (bought from Costco last year, November time-frame), so it's still under warranty. I need to find the receipt, but I think I still have the email receipt. Before I send it off to iRiver under warranty, anyone know if there's an easy fix? If not, who do I contact at iRiver? Will they be able to fix/replace the PMP-120, or will they try to replace it with a PMC-120? (I don't really want the PMC-120, since I prefer the PMP series for the Linux and possibility of hacking it.) |

My problem with my Iriver PMC-120 is that everytime I tried to turn it on, It gives me the usual boot up then slowly washing the display out then totally the screen went blank as in totally dark. Is there somebody here to figure out the problem. Seems my device will eventually unusable since it doen't boot or turn on right.

I have the exact same problem. The only thing is i cant return mine, so im stuck on fixing this myself. This happend to me right after i updated with the 2.04 firmware. Did you update or did it just start doing that. I've been searching for an answer for about 3 weeks now and i've got nothing. I've tried emailing shamrockman out of plee, and his forums. As well as other sites. And IRiver will be of no use themselves. So im out of options, im just waiting on a friend to get back to me on wha he could do. if not my last option is to try and currpt it into a boot error..

Fixed mines
Ok, so here's what i did. I resorted to trying to magnetize the hd a little to put it into a boot error. So i tried taking it apart to get to the hd. The only thing is i couldnt get all the screws out, i didn have a small enough driver on me for the slots.
So i took the strongest magnet to the back and it did nothing. So i read a post about how a guy dropped it and it screwed up his hd, so i shook it a little and dropped it on the table from about a foot. Gave up and put it back together and dropped it again outta frustration. I then turned it on and went downstairs to put the screwdriver away, came back up and it was working, oddly enough. So.. the old kicking the computer to fix it routine worked for me.. lol. Thats how i fixed mine, i just hope it stays working. I dont suggest doing it by any meens, it was just my last resort from waiting for an answer for close to a month. |
