Need Help for a Better Business Bureau complaint

Hey, all. Bear with me here, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster here on the Mistic River.

I've been an Iriver fan for around 4 years now--I started with a lowly 128 meg flash player, graduated to the iHP-120 (the best MP3 I've ever used, btw) and I just picked up a PMP-140 on ebay--only because I finaly needed more space, and the headphone jack on my last player got loose, and I can't seem to find anything to remove those darn screws to re-solder it.

But, I digress.

I was almost immediately dissappointed in the 1.25US firmware that shipped with the PMP. I went to Iriver to find the newest firmware, only to find a message that I don't need it, "all players are shipping with the newest firmware". Wonderful.

So, after searching for around an hour, I come across the Korean 2.04 firmware (which they no longer host on their site--big thanks to you, Shamrockman, for hosting it). Got it installed fine, audio no longer glitches...but it looks like the player still won't play ogg vorbis audio or radio record--two features which I'm almost positive were advertised when the player was released, but have discreetly been removed from their site.

Why should I have to weed through the Korean site to update my American player? Why doesn't this play ogg, when all their other players do? WHY CAN'T I RECORD FROM FM RADIO, WHEN IT'S PLAINLY A FEATURE LISTED, WITH INSTRUCTIONS, IN THE MANUAL THE PLAYER SHIPPED WITH?
(I could make a fuss about the lack of games which were also advertised, but it really doesn't bother me much as I don't know I'd use it. I know a lot of people were hot about this, too.)

Quite frankly, this is ridiculous. And I feel like doing something about it.

I would appreciate it if someone could provide me some of the earlier promotional material for the PMP series that lists these sorely missing features, as I would like to make a BBB report for false advertising. And kind of info--print, website, whatever--is much appreciated. I love Iriver, and it's really sad that they've pretty much abandoned the userbase that made them popular--that is, the buyers of their original hardware (which, coincidentally, they no longer sell.)

If anyone can help me out or cares to throw in their two cents, please do.

Welcome to MR (as a member), good luck in your quest. I hope you can get your problems w/the player ironed out.

In addition to filing a BBB complaint, you might want to check to see if your state has adopted the Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Act, and if your state's attorney general has a way to report violations of that act.
