PMC vs PMP
So on a paralell import site i can get a PMC120 cheap. My question is are they worth buying? What are the problems with them, the pmp140 is 1.5 times more $$, what extra features does the pmp have over the pmc?
I want something that plays videos, views pictures, plays mp3 and wma. games would also be nice? Also can i install software into media center? Thanks for any help |

pmc plays wmv videos
pmp plays xvid videos. wmv is crap and xvid is not... Also there are a lot of more pmp owners here so if you would need help in the future... You are talking about pmc-120 and pmp-140. ofcourse is the pmp-140 more expensive because it has 40gb harddisk. PMP-120 is probably at the same price as the pmc-120 |

PMC is MTP player with some kind of Windows system... it was designed for US, it DOES NOT work as external harddrive
PMP is UMS player with some kind of Linux sysyem... it was designed for the rest of the world, it works as external harddrive

I did a lot of research on the PMP, PMC and rival models. In the end I bought a PMP.
Whilst I didn't feel in necessary to have the TV recording facility of the Archos the PMP-140 was a nice price of a impressive bit of kit. I use it every day now, mainly for videos. The biggest drawback is the operating system. For a Noobie it was written by a lunatic. However, after a good it of practice you can become accustomed to it, and know how to avoid the buggy bits. The Zen isn't better than the PMP in anyway, it's still a work in progress and more of a chore to use than the PMP. The PMC seems to have a lot of restrictions that the PMP doesn't. And I think the PMP looks nicer than all of them. Oh, and the kick stand is neat.

AFAIK the PMC CAN be used as an external HDD. However, this is not how you should load your media files onto it as they won't always be recognized. You really need to use WMP10 to synch media files. Otherwise, Office docs and things of that nature can be loaded onto the iRiver directly.

So it does have usb2.0 and will be recognised as a removable drive? And if i shove a whole load of mp3s on it without M$ media player will it work? I get the feeling that the pmc is like an iPod; a piece of crap that looks nice and needs software to put get files onto it.
