New to PMP 120 and new to MR forum!

First of all, thanks all for all the previous posts which helped me make the decision of investing into a PMP120!

Now that the device was delived, I have few questions:
1) I have Firmware V. 1.13. I read on the forums about newer firmwares possibly from Korean/Indian sites. I called the IRiver support number and they said the unrecommended non-US firmware upgrades will "DESTROY" the device and possibly void the warranty! So, how safe are these upgrades and can I backup/restore my current loadset just in case something goes wrong?

2) The PMP 120 does not shuffle well .. In fact, it's so terrible at shuffling that it only shuffles and plays songs from ~20 of my folders from a total of 90-100 folders selected in the playlist. I know the files in the rest ~70 folders are NOT currupted because I can manually select individual file and play them without any problems.

3) I also read on the MR forums about Mods/Themes/WPS. I'm not too familiar with them? But if they're supposed to enhance the experience, where can I get these?

4) I have a Canon Powershot S50 camera -- which is NOT listed on their site. Is there a way to enable the supprot for this model?

5) I HATE THE NAVIGATION .. Can I customize the keys?

6) How do I enable support for DIVx? I converted some of my personal files to their specified format, but incompatible format error shows up. I also download some sample/small DIVx files from internet but still no luck.

Answers to your questions:
1. The upgrade process is fairly safe. just wait a few more seconds after the PMP says its done upgrading, and you shouldnt have any problems. (Please send me a copy of your iRiverSys folder before you upgrade)
2. There is nothing you can do yet to fix the shuffling.
3. Skinning the PMP right now is very limited, and it cant support WPS files.
4. There really isnt a good way to interface a Canon camera to the PMP.

6. The PMP is fairly picky in the video files it will play. It likes the videos in 320x240 or 640x480 and with a bitrate between 500 and 1500kbps.

2.04 works fine

When I asked the iRiver support about the possibility of placing a 60gb HDD into pmp-140 instead of the dead 40Gb, they answered me that it won'fit because "60Gb is bigger than 40Gb". These guys are awfully not-well-informed x_x
But be carefull while updating da PiMP.

How do I send you the contents of iRiverSys? If it's just for backup purpose, I can back up on my other computer. If you still need the files, do you need entire folder zipped up or any specific subfolder (bmp, etc)?

I think my player version is 1.13.. is that same as FW version .. if not how do I find out which version of FW I have.
And from which site should I download the FW?

That site is prob. the best for downloading the update, since you do not have to guess what the korean says.

what are the benefits of upgrading the fw? where can i get a skin for the navigation? im with you takekachara, navigation is slow and painful!

4. There really isnt a good way to interface a Canon camera to the PMP.

There is one way. get a usb card readerand connect it to your usbotg. Then you can put your memory cards from your canon into the card reader and the pmp should detect and read them.

Hi Guys! I am very late to the party... I only just got my PMP 120 yesterday and as I bought it from ebay I thouhgt I would have a clean sweep and format the player... Eeeeeeeeeeeek!

Well I got the dreaded Boot failure msg and could not even get the pmp drive to show up on my comp at all for quite a while so thought I would not get the chance to replace the iriversys file even if I could find my original firmware version online... V1.24 - a BIG BIG ThankYou! to LAStone who had posted a link to this very file.

My drive finally reappeared and i quickly copied the downloaded file to the pmp drive... HEY PRESTO!

another BIG ThankYou! to Shamrockman for all his helpful posts which helped me along the way and led to my dowloading Firmware V2.04 which I have now successfully upgraded to. I just had to register on this site to express my gratitude for your help.

Ps. Is the v2.04 the most up to date version of the FW?

I have a IRIVER pmp 120 had it with me now for like 1 tour to IRAQ and my stupped ass deletted all the files off it can someone help me I need firmware 1.13, and what ever else you have to have to get it to boot up. It keeps sayen boot fauler can anyone help get this fixed please. Im in Iraq now and need some help.
