After many hours of trying to fix this boot failure problem, i contacted Danny at iriver Australia and he told me that due to my PMP being purchased in the US, there was nothingthat he could do for me! I really enjoyed my PMP but according to him, i have nothing but a 40GB portable harddirve now... Surely this isn't right! does any one have any ideas on what i can do??? even if i have to send it somewhere in the US or something?
thanks mitchpike |

Check out Astec's guides that are stickied on this board. They have links and info on what to do if you're missing your PMP system files. It's worth noting that the steps are as numerous as they are specific, so be careful!
I did this too, right when I got my PMP-120. Big mistake, but I got through it, so I bet you can too. Good luck! |

Astec no longer hangs about this forum, which is a shame.....but anyhow....use the search function at the top of the page. Go advanced (at the bottom). It will ask for key words and what forum you want to search in. You at least know what forum you need.
Unfortunately Astec was being childish when he left, although i do think he visits under a different account and IP address now and again. He was very dedicated until it didnt go his way. Any way....do Zebras have stripes or can leopards change them.....(someone censor meeeee!!!!) |

I'll see if I still have my recovery files and guide on my computer tonight. If I still do then I can email them through to you tomorrow. (I'm down in Australia too).
It's actually not that hard to, takes about half an hour, but I can't remember it all off the top of my head. If you post some more details (firmware version, error messages, wether it can connect to a computer etc) I'll be able to help you out a bit more easily.

ok molex,
i formatted my iriver by mistake a couple of weeks ago.. obviously windows formatted it into NTFS, which i know is no good for the operating software on the PMP. So i formatted it again using the partition magic 8.0 to a Fat32 system... The PMP will start up but shows a "BOOT FAILURE" msg with "firmware Version 2.04" underneath.... i went to the misticriver site and downloaded the 2.04 firmware from the shamrockman (or something like that) and unzipped it onto the pmp, only to reboot it and recieve the same "BOOTFAILURE" msg... I then tried a combination of other iriverSys files but with no luck.... i am not great on computers so it could be something that i am doing wrong.. Lastly i rang iriver Australia and they told me that there was nothing that they could do for me as my PMP was bought in the US and it was completely different to the ones they deal with... let us know if you need anymore info... it connects to my computer fine.. cheers mitch |

That should be all I need. I put together a file bundle last year which I got from iriver that recovered several pmps. When I get it (and access to a computer) I'll send it on.

I've had this same problem. It would be great if you could send me the same advice. I bought my PMP-140 only to find that it didn't have a serial number, so I can't send it to iRiver for RMA even if I was willing to. I've tried all the suggestions so far, and none have worked. But it sounds like you have this covered. Thanks!

Hi molex
i've been trying to fix my fince's brothers pmp as well, something is really wrong with this batch cause this one has the same problem, and nothing that has been said on this site seems to be working, i formatted and followed shamrocks advice on his tutorial site and also followed a couple of other threads as well, for some reason it doesnt seem to work. So if you have any additional advice it will be greatly appreciated. |
