Demands of iRiver

I want a complete list of things we want to see from iriver for the PMP100s.

WHEN POSTING PLEASE SEPARATE THE THINGS THEY OWE US LIKE SOURCE CODE AND GAMES FROM THE THINGS WE WANT TO SEE,
make my life a little easier.

The current list is
We are entitled to
-Recording from the radio
-Games as promised
-Source code of the linux kernel.
-The remote available to buy along with accessories for europe etc
-WMA support properly not half assed.

Things we want
-Ogg support along with other codecs
-mame?
-More options in the options menu

Please list other things after this post and over the coming days I will add them to the list to make things easier.

THIS THREAD CONCERNS PMP USERS ONLY, DO NOT POST REGARDING THE OTHER PLAYERS, H300, H100 OR H10 PLAYERS ETC. THERE ARE THREADS ABOUT WHAT IS WANTED ON THOSE PLAYERS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE SECTIONS.

Excuse the amount of caps but the last thread like this ended up awash with things h300 users wanted.

1st of all i would like to say hallo to all forum users.. i am from germany and last night i found that forum.. it is wonderfull...!!

i am too an pmp 140 owner... and i am to for the:

-Recording from the radio
-Games as promised
-The remote available to buy along with accessories for europe etc

*.ogg is very important too..

but i think i would be nice if you could use 2 things up once..

for example

listen to music AND view pictures..(or texts )

THAT would be very NICE!!!

and i would make me happy if they would create a "picture slid show"

i hope you can understand what i am talking about.. because my english is not very good...

so

Hang Loose - BAstian

I agree. Those are the things that we are entitled to legally. Although there is an opportunity to request everything that has been advertised as iRiver have a duty to ensure that their product is advertised properly and correctly.

I say you give them 14 days to respond. If they do not we shall escalate the situation. Small claims courts etc. I certainly could not afford a full on law suit, but a couple of bucks to take them to small claims...

I would be willing to donate to anyone developing code for the pmp to update the firmware. It would be worth iriver releasing their code to us so that we could stop these threats and negativity towards them. If we were able to create the things we wanted (and as promised by iRiver) then i'm sure we would then just get on with our lives and leave them alone. This forum must be damaging to iRiver in many ways. I certainly will not buy an iRiver product again and lord knows how many people have read these pages and decided against it...

You can already view text files, just press and hold the navi button p13 of your instruction manual will explain the button, and all you do in the menu is navigate to the text file. Hope that helps. Your comments are appreciated. Welcome to the site I hope you enjoy all we have to offer, please make sure to sign the petition to help us in out fight against the machine. why did the pmp not preload only 10 sec of the mp3 file before they would be played that would be realy fast then do the rest, when you have a list of files it takes a lot of time before the file plays, and when you go to the next file of the list isnt loaded and takes much time to pay it, another thing could be not play the file in x seconds so you can push the button 2 or 3 times whitout the next file loads and go 3 files or 5 files next to the list very fast.......

I forgot to mention that it should play WMA's better. iRiver claims that it plays WMA files. Although it does 'play' them the quality of the playback is terrible. This is not acceptable. In my view this would be classified as a fault and is returnable under warranty. I know that is what i am planning on doing if these matters cannot be resolved.

Come on I cant keep up with this! Anyway will ammend the list in an hour or so. But the txt reader is there so its more a wish rather than a want, surprised there has been no wrongly posted stuff!! But been doing some talking to a few contacts, we need evidence of the games support? Does anyone have a screen shot of the iriver site before it was updated, or a cached version. Anything at all that says games support.

Gekoskate I think your going a bit too far, keep it realistic, what things would we like that are possible. ie things you see that can be done easily or that other players have. Bar the new archos.

Timings on track changing

The speed between changing tracks needs to be addressed...
Between normal tracks it is anoying but if you have a load of mp3s from a mix cd the wait is enfurating!!!!

Maybe some kind of casheing? ie set in the setting none, 2 sec, 10sec etc??

Has the iRiver site actually stated games support. I can find it on other sites but not on iRiver or the iRiver affiliates that are directly linked. I have searched through as many archives as i can find in English and Korean (with babel fish) from the middle of last year and have not spotted a reference yet.

http://www.archive.org/

I have been told by a lawyer that iRiver has the duty to ensure that its products and their specifications are advertised correctly, but whether that will be enough is debatable.

Hence we are left with:

- Lack of FM recording
- Not being able to purchase a remote
- WMA playback not to adequate standard
- Linux code not released

The rest are wishes and statements made by 3rd party websites. Please correct me if I am wrong...

pauses

What i mean is like when you change the track the lagg is soooo long.....

So if they put some cashing of the tunes, even if it does take the time to find the tune the tune can continue with out pausing so much. WinAMP uses this system i think (output buffer).

Yup I did my research, at first I saw the PMP and archos and compared the 2, I liked the PMPs looks more and the games support sealed the deal, I dont need a tv record function, why should I, when I can do it on the PC. But I checked to make sure that amp3 didnt make a mistake so used the iRiver site to be sure, lo and behold there it was in black and white!

Caching occurs but too late to work properly, but it does need it. As for when you swap to another track, the player could never do the caching or its 16mb memory would never take the strain. It should do better at normal playing though.

Uk was released in may 2004 I believe, but they advertised it on the site at xmas as an upcoming model, but I was looking at the H100s at the time. It took me over a year to purchase a DAP. sad or what. Will get the release dates for you now.
