First off there is no US version for the PMP. Try upgrading to an older firmware. Korean is it so far as I know. And on this subject that is a lot. But Duelist has pointed out the 2 most important PMP threads for you.

If there is no US version, then I wonder why my PiMP says 2.04 and is running fine

My upgrade path (see /iRiverSys/ for these files):
Version-[0x01][0x0c] -> 1.12
Version-[0x01][0x18] -> 1.24
Version-[0x02][0x01] -> 2.01
Version-[0x02][0x03] -> 2.03
Version-[0x02][0x04] -> 2.04

I do have to note that the language selection of the 2.04 version was funny, the scribblyscribbly of the japanese switched between english back to korean once, but now it nicely stays english

Currently I only have three requests:
- Tool compilation suite, aka how to write your own app for the PiMP and upload and run it, eg so I can do the bloody games myself, I think I'll port Dynablasters and Mega-Lo-Mania for the heck of it
- removing the restiction of reading .txt files to also include *.cpp/*.c/*.h and many others, handy for reviewing code on the move, note these are text files anyway... now I just rename them to .txt
- thumbnail viewer/browser thingy for the pictures
- playing music at the same time as watching piccies...

I said there is no US version of 2.04. A US player can have 2.04 but is not required to be its region specific.

2.04 US Firmware

The 2.04 US Firmware has been posted on the IRIVER International site along with 2.04 firmware for all other localities. It only took two weeks after the Korean Version was posted on the Iriver Korea site.

Is v2.04 Firmware stable?

I was one of the unfortunate souls that upgraded to v2.03 Firmware on the belief that it was stable.

Usually, I'm an early adopter, but I am following some friendly advice to NOT upgrade to v2.04.

I would like to use the text reader again, but not if tranferring files from to the PiMP using the USB-host feature is going to crash my system.

If you are using v2.04, can you vouch for the firmware upgrade or advise the rest of us of any known bugs (or PiMP threads with the bugs listed).

Unhappy Firmware upgrade V2.04

Please help me am I going crazy? Total newbie here and I need help! I have been checking on how to upgrade my PMP140 and so far I have follwed the links and downloaded the zip files.

However when I unzip the file I am given another zip file that says PMP100 if I unzip that I get a HEX file (allimg.hex) plus another zip file iRiverSys.tar

Sorry if I'm just being dumb just want to check before I do something crazy and spoil my PMP.

Thanks for any help in advance

Arrow How To Install Firmware

Rezimus

To Install Firmware:
1) 'PMP100.tar' is the File You Need Copy to the PMP Root Directory.
2) Then Simply Follow the Instructions to Upgrade Firmware.
ie Setup -> System -> Upgrade Firmware

Hope This Helps

Local distributor says don't do it

Australian readers,

C.R. Kennedy, the Australian distributor of iRiver, has advised that users don't make the upgrade to v2.04.

There are 2 FAQs on how to upgrade firmware in the PMP FAQ section they are more detailed than those above so if you want a total step by step guide to it look no further than there.

Unhappy Still having no joy

Ok I guess this is something I'm really going to need help on!

I've followed the advice on the FAQ page to upgrade my PMP however while it is very straight forward I obviously know that I am doing something wrong when it says no F/W found so I guess the problem is still exactly what I am placing into my root file.

I have unzipped the F/W 2.04 and I get the pmp100.tar file but it is still a winzip file after unzipping this I am left with the iRiverSys.tar file (again a winzip file) so after unpacking this I am left with an iRiverSys folder which includes

pmp01.dat thru 13 (bmp folder)
etc_file (etc folder)
Version-[0x02][0x04]

Am I to copy the whole iRiverSys folder to the root menu? I did this and then followed the FAQ and that is when I was left with F/W not found.

I have since just deleted what was added and the PMP works just fine but if anyone can just give me an idea of exactly what I am to copy to the root folder I'm sure I will be fine

No major rush peeps just whenever you can assist me in my quest (DOH)!!!!

Download the firmware, unzip this file and place it in the root folder (I have an FAQ on what that is too) then proform the firmware upgrade. It has to be the first extracted files the player does the rest of the extracting its self. If its not in the root folder it will not work. The process is detailed in the manual and the FAQs so you have probably overlooked a small detail. Make sure its the actual PMP firmware and not the PMC one.

Talking Thanks

Astec123, I knew I had to be doing something wrong and your last post hit the nail on the head. Each time I got a new zip file I kept on unzipping it (thinking I needed too) when as you said the PMP does all the rest for you, so I simply placed the PMP100.tar zip file in the root folder and it is now in the process of upgrading (DOH!!!!)

Well at least I know now thanks to you. Cheers for the help most appreciated

Lets just hope all goes well but so far so good!!

Yeah you are totally right cos in the end it was something so simple and I was just missing it (guess the fear of messing up your player will do that to you) cos mine is full of my music and films

Good thing peeps like you are there to help, I would have just given up otherwise.

Yes things get blown out of proportion by your mind when you try to do things like this. Its like an audit at work or whatever its hell and you go mad over the whole thing but because of that you make silly mistakes. Hope you enjoy the new features of 2.04.
