Plugin came out today to read VOBs. Currently the US store has a broken link but supposedly folks are buying it from the UK website and the plugin works on US machines.

Yes, I had 5 and have sold 3 already.

Have 1 more to sell and am keeping one - it is a very awesome device, I need to find time to do the review, but I love it - the 04 series for Archos is quite impressive w/the 604 wifi really shining.

But.....that is imho, however I don't think I am alone.

Aha.... I was just wondering why you posted here, then bumped the thread in the bazaar.... Sounds like a very cool device.... BTW, how well does the web-browser work? Or are you gonna make me sit on these pins-n-needles?

Also--is there a support forum for it similar to MR?

The Wifi forum isn't very busy, but the 504/604 forum is VERY active and has a few folks who seem very happy to assault Archos with bug reports non-stop until they release firmware updates.

yeh i've recently become interested in this player....but i have a few questions...

Does it play normal Avi's downloaded from the internet or do they need to be converted?

also about this wifi..what exactly will it do apart from being able to access the internet? and will you be able to say play online streaming video files (like from youtube) when on the net, or does it have a crappy web browser like the psp?

in terms of looks it looks a bit crap and old..or is that just me?

Been in hospital w/back surgery and been unable as yet to put together a review.
But here is one from C-net that I am pretty much in agreement with except for the slow processor comments - I do not find that to be true.

With the latest plugin I have been taking TV shows taped with SageTV (DVR software) to work with me to watch during lunch (I work early mornings so nighttime TV is not an option during the week).

I do love my 604. Going to have to get one of those new cases for it.

Love this unit, it is totally awesome in every respect. When you surf the net, it has a couple of ways of doing it. One way is w/a virtual keyboard, it also has pre-set menu items.

One of the things I like about the wireless is the abilty to access any of the media or pdf's in my house or anywhere where there is a wireless network.You can view pics, watch movies, or listen to music seamlessly that are stored on other hard drives.

I can download stuff from my tivo to go and access it via the wireless as well.

Well, along with my new job I have been working hard and dreaming hard. I fuigure after all the sh!t that has happened in the past year, I will treat myself next week and get another DAP. My eyes are pointed towards the Archos 604 wifi as it offers soooo much!
Few things I would like to know however is, have you tried the camera attatchment with it? and is the wifi really good/bit sucky but works/ or fantastic for the what it is!? I am hoping it is full net and not a dumbed down version made by some crazed application on the device?! Is there some sort of msn chat that can be run using the device? I fuigure i wont use it much for music as I have my two irivers but what is the sound quality like anyhow? cheers!

You can surf the internet, but many of the pages are too big to view properly - think of a pda. (see my post above, it talks about wht I like about the wifi)

You are able to zoom in or out, change from landscape to portrait and make the page you are viewing bigger or smaller.

It currently has no support for flash or java but that is supposedly in the works.
Even with it's shortcomings it is an incredibly versitle device. The SQ is very good especially after the latest firmware.

The engeneers have been very responsive in listening to user requests and publishing frquent firmware upgrades. Archos has a huge investment in this product line.

All I can say is everyone is always looking for the "perfect" device - you are never going to find it.
If you buy this (or any) device you can find plenty of things about it to complain about if you want to.

However I personally have few gripes w/this player and will tell you that of all the players that I own, this is one of my favs.

I bought one 2 days ago and it's pretty nice. But in my opinion, you have to spend like 130$ more on the DVR and plugin for it to reach 95% of its full capability..I paid 650$ for mine at futureshop with 3 year warranty. pretty good so far.
