Just picked up a 16g ipod touch

Managed to get $10 off on it - whoopee.

I've got to say it is quite an impressive bit of technology.

Nice clear screen, UI very easy and fun, wi-fi not bad overall, lots of features, and SQ is acceptable.

The unit really is a technologically impressive device, and seems to be solidly constructed.

How are you finding the absence of dedicated volume controls?

How would you compare the SQ to your iriver and Cowon players? Creative? Sandisk?

So if your My Players section is up to date you have 27 players now. And I thought i was insane with how many I've got

Glad to see you like it though. The Wi-Fi is a cool thing IMO.

I know the guy at my apple store quiet well since I work at a shop near them, and one of the guys gave me an ipod touch to use for 2 hours.

I gotta say, I really like the design (except for the black plastic bit at the back), but I keep getting this feeling that Apple deliberately crippled the touch's ability so as to not upset iPhone owners.

Lack of dedicated volume is not bad as you can adjust it w/the touch screen when playing music.

SQ is about what you'd expect from Apple. This is totally subjuective, but here is how I rate the SQ of my players 1 being the best:
1. iRiver, Zune
2. Cowan, Archos
3. Creative, Apple
4. Sandisk, Mobiblu

Yeah, It's about 27 players now, although I did sell a few.

The iPhone does not use WiFi. Only the iTouch in the iPod line uses it. The iPhone uses either EDGE or some other way that connects to the AT&T network.

It CAN (along with EDGE), but the person that tested it and said it was "laggy" was most likely browsing the internet on an EDGE connection, and not a broadband hotspot. Obviously, latency on EDGE is substantially higher than a wired broadband connection shared out via a wireless ap.

The person in question said they were using wi-fi.
And, if anywhere is going to have a hotspot for iPhone to use, surely it's an Apple store so that they show off their wonder-phone.

However, that's besides the point.
I wasn't commenting on whether or not that particular person was using wi-fi, merely that the iPhone has such capabilities.

I have to get some stupid dongle adapter for my iphone to use a good headphone with them, but I want to make sure I got one that allowed me to keep all the call answering features.

I assumed that the iPhone I was using at the Apple store (a floor model) was using WiFi, rather than racking up cellphone charges ...

Sorry, I could have sworn I've read it doesn't use it. I just checked the specs and apparantly it does.

All AT&T plans that are available with the iPhone have unlimited data transfer, so there wouldn't be any charges (except the monthly contract charge of course).
