Rockbox on 160GB ipod?

I took a look at the Rockbox forums and couldnt find the answer i was looking for, plus i cant post there as i am not a member. So the question is, is the new 160GB ipod supported by Rockbox? Looks pretty much the same as the 80 GB but i just want to make sure.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't think the 5.5G iPods were even supported.

They weren't supported until a few months back but now Rockbox is now running on them.

Thats a pity, iv seen some for quite a reasonable price. 160GB would be nice, but no use to me unless they support FLAC.

Yeah, but look at it this way - by the time they get RockBox ported over, it'll be even cheaper.

And hopefully more choice of 160GB DAPs with FLAC support. I'd hold out a little while and see what other manufacturers release in response to the new iPods.

I believe the general response of the rockbox dev's was that the new ipods are not likely to be supported in the foreseeable future, like the 2nd gen nano's, due to encryption and unknown hardware.

Along with firmware encryption on other iPods, look at what happened with the latest iPhone firmware update. Some players got BRICKED.

I don't think it was an accident, either -- the Apple programmers certainly must have been aware of the methods used to unlock iPhones. They could have just written the update to relock them, but NO -- Apple wants control of the whole "experience," and this was a good opportunity to show the casual user who might have been considering installing third party software who's boss and scare them off of using any future hacks.

I understand that the carriers usually run the show in the U.S. and Canada, but it should be pretty clear from the encrypted firmware on other iPods that Apple wants to actively discourage any hacking in the future.

hi folks! would thi solve the rockbox problem on the ipod??

what if someone used a 5th gen 60gb video ipod, and somehow, found a Samsung 160gb drive and just put it in the 5th gen model? seeing as the hardware would still be the same except for the drive itself. would that work?

Actually, the bricking seems to have been spread pretty evenly across hacked phones and un-hacked phones. There are a number of cases of people who have bought an iPhone, taken it home, the first thing they've done is upgrade the firmware and it's bricked on them.
It's just crappy quality control from Apple.

However, they dug themselves into a hole by saying beforehand that upgrading a hacked iPhone would probably brick it in an attempt to lay the blame with the hackers. The problem being that the people who actually own the phones see things differently.
