If it doesn't do what the consumer wants it to do, then I think it is broken.
So I am now starting to wonder if I can slip a new battery and 160Gb hd into my well used 5.5 60Gb...... it would be cheaper, and it seems like it will be some time before the Rockbox guys figure out the encryption. Linky a

It seems wrong that company's such as apple try to take away your freedom of choice on the software and accessories you can use to complement your player.
I cant help but think that if apple had a bigger percentage of the computer market you'd have to buy a mac in order to use the ipod. Its like being locked into a contract.... Thank god for people like the Rockbox crew. EDIT: this is probably not in the right thread so feel free to delete it , I won't be insulted Last edited by jumbuck : September 18th, 2007 at 01:37 PM. Totally wrong thread and forum but hey, it's my site...
Speaking along the lines of consumers and broken players, etc... It is unfortunate to see many unscrupulous users. Case in point, Ive experienced approx. 10 claims for broken or malfunctioning screens on the new clix 2. Of those 10, 2 were actually defective. The others had been dropped or in some other way broken by the user and claimed as defective. If there is anything that will prevent me from continuing on with iriver players, it will be users who take advantage of false claims. I've even seen other users in these forums telling customers who've dropped their player to claim warranty on it. Absolutely unbelievable!! and unfortunately happens every day. This is the type of thing that drives up costs and puts the little guys out of business as we simply cannot absorb those types of returns. Do your homework, study a player and its specs., touch it and play with it if possible in a retail store, compare it to others in its class, wait for user reviews to come out and then make your decision. If you purchase it and get it home and begin to use and it doesn't meet your expectations, then don't be shocked when the retailer assesses the restocking fee on the return and do more homework the next time. Don't keep it for two months and then claim it's defective and ask for a refund. Rant over....

A well warranted rant.
A lot of people just don't want to take responsibility for screwing their things up and think that retailers have plenty of resources and think it won't hurt them. It's sad really, it all boils down to personal responsibility that sadly many folks just don't have. Sure, ferk up your player and make someone else pay for it, there's plenty of good rationale for that.

Is it worthwhile opening another thread from ipod classic owners and their experiences with the new player?

I remember a person who was straight up with iRiver, or so they reported here. They told the rep they dropped their player and it stopped. The rep told them to send it back, which they did, and it was replaced, free of charge, with all new accessories.
Misrepresenting the situation is not only illegal, but, with iRiver, seems unnecessary. a

I had a very quick peek at the iPod Nanos we've just received at work. They look nicer in real life than on the Apple website, but the dimensions still look all wrong IMHO. It's impressively thin, but the screen is still too small to be worth watching anything on.

If you call up iriver and say "I dropped my player from 3 feet onto concrete and now it does not work" I highly doubt they will say "ship it back to us and we'll replace it" At the iriver store we surely will not. Misuse and mishandling by the user is not a covered warranty issue. This will apply with other companies as well. I highly doubt that the user you're referring to posed the situation in that manner and honestly. If anyone wants to try it, i'll sponsor half the cost. We can try it with an Apple iPod or a Creative product. The rules are plain though, it must be represented factually. Customer support must be called and told the player was dropped by the user and now does not function. No variations, bending of the truth, gilding the lilly, etc...

I'm beginning to wonder if it'd be a good idea to swap my 4GB nano for an 8GB one instead. I'll have to pay an extra 100AUD, so is it worth getting a 8GB nano, or should I just stick with the 4GB and wait till another replacement model is unveiled.
The main reason I'm tempted to swap is that there isn't enough room in my 4GB nano to shove lots of videos in. I've already cut down my music collection a lot, so the 8GB option looks tempting.

At iLounge, which is, of course a dedicated iPod site, the iTouch revue indicates that it is not a well suited player. They even go as far in saying that they are a devolution, and not a revolution to the iPod lineup. Read HERE for more information.

But as we know from the iPhone, there are plenty of people out there who aren't overly interested in what features something has or how well suited it is to it's task, so long as it's a shiny Apple product.
There are a large number of people will pay through the nose for a 16GB flash-based iPod and if Apple don't produce a 16GB Nano, a significant number of those people will be prepared to get the Touch instead (not to mention the people who actually specifically want the Touch because it's new, pretty or whatever...). There are two ways of looking at it. Firstly, by limiting the capacity of the Nano, Apple are going to lose customers by not catering for their needs. Or, secondly, by not competing with themselves, they can make more money by pushing people to a more expensive product. The chances are, given the sort of 'wildly loyal' customer-base Apple has that the second way of looking at it is closer to the truth. |

I think there are two kinds of people out there,
those who think there are two kinds of people, and those who know better. So far, no matter what you might think about Apple's strategies, it is working, and working well. Steve cant get near his company anyway, the amount of money it is spewing in his general direction is a torrent nobody can swim against. a
