There are a few iriver converts here (not by choice), but I think the classic sound is adequate.
Sound quality is in the ear of the beholder so you will have to listen for yourself to judge. I bought a set of vaf speakers for my pod and coded at 320kbps had a guy i work with look very surprised as the great sq. This guy spends thousands on cd players and he was surprised so that says something.

I happily owned an H320 for three years, two of 'em with a crippled battery. I finally cashed it in @ BB (extended warranty), gave BB an additional $6.91 USD (not a typo
One thing I have noticed is there's no hiss with the 'pod, which is nice since Neil Young used reverb, not hissing. While no audiophile (let's face it: no audiophile would use compressed files for playback), I am very picky. Had the 'pod not sounded and performed great, I would've immediately returned it to the store and gotten my $6.91 back. I can happily recommend it...unless you own a lot of 'pod-specific accessories for a prior gen. But that's another post.... Gapless is teh poo, BTW.

I am likely to be moving to a 160Gb iPod in the next couple of months. I owned a H320 for about 18 months, and now own a Rockboxed 60Gb iPod. But after nearly two years it's battery is starting to go, and it is full. I will be going for a month or three long holiday, and will want all my tunes, as well as language tapes with me.
Having a huge amount of storage means I can also have two copies of my music and share it with whoever I want. a

The ipods are more than acceptable.
They've evolved into a pretty decent player(s).

My issue is that I take my music to work with me, and put it onto my computer. Since I can't install ITunes on my computer at work, I don't think I could play my music there. Yeah, I can just play my DAP instead, but then I have to worry about it being charged, and moving about my office and all that.
That's why I asked about Rockbox, not because of the IPod's firmware, but more because of the proprietary program one needs to play music from it. |

Do you mean that you play your music off the DAP through the computer, or copy files off the DAP onto the computer, then play through that?
If the second one, then you can use a program called poddox. If it's the first one, and you can install Winamp on the office PC, then you can seemingly use the following plug-in. I just went to test it, then realised I'd left my iPod cable at home, and I'm at uni. Booo! WINAMP.COM | Forums - ml_iPod v3.02 released! Fortunatly though, seeing as most people have an iPod, I'll have no trouble borrowing a cable if I really need one. |

That's probably a good idea. Many people like them, but my friend bought one and HATED IT. She didn't elaborate too much on why, but she took it back to the store within a few days. She actually purchased something called a Wolverine. Takes two different types of cards, plays video etc. Might be worth a google.

Geez, you're just the reporting fool lately, eh? : ) I'll have you know, I worked long and hard on the "advanced language" in the above thread. KIDDING! It wasn't me! It wasn't me!
I wonder why this thread keeps getting spammed over and over? |
