I owned one for about a month and really loved it until the rumour came out about a higher capacity and 3g was due this year. The first has happened although 16gb is nothing to get exited about.
Two things I decided to on sell for a nice profit were the edge browsing was way too slow here and it was a little wide to what im used to in a phone, but apart from that am open to buy another once 3g and hopefully they are unlocked to the world would be nice (legally) Lots of fun gadget thats for sure

Do not own an iPhone, but did try it once. Don't really like it because of its size. I like my phone to be small so I can put it in my pocket comfortably.
I do consider getting an iTouch, not so much as my portable music player but more of a PDA (to replace my aging Palm T|T3). I just hope that the release of SDK means we will see more apps being developed.

One thing about the iphone/touch is its a great in car "driving whilst changing music device" you can avoid crashes better whilst picking another album.

Larger capacity would indeed be nice. Though I wouldn't expect to see such dreams come true until the iPhones third incarnation, even though there are currently 32 gig flash drives available. Wonder what they're waiting on, actually ?
I've been in the market for a new phone, amongst other things, and I think that with the release of the SDK, it's probably going to be a very strong contender for me. BBD alerted me to a point of interest though, where it was purported that the iPhone wouldn't be able to run more than one application at a time, and that no programs would run in the background. This information seems to be mostly false, as one developer reported that there were no hardware restrictions which did this with his app, that he did manage to run in the background. It's apparently a matter of how the app is coded. There is probably however, a reason as to why certain things might be better off in a save then restore state, rather than run in the background, so we'll see. IMO, it's all looking mighty good for Apple atm. If they try and hone in on the business world side of the game, the industry might very well change drastically. But that's going to be a very tough cookie for them to crack, as well as take away from M$. Who has the most $$ wins, I guess ? All I know right now is, Steve Ballmer is an idiot, and a maniacal menace to all man kind..and should NOT be in the position that he is. Not to mention the sweat.. shhheesh.

Apple aren't using 32GB chips, almost certainly because the 16GB ones are cheaper - the Touch has two 16GB chips next to each other however the iPhone apparently doesn't have room for that because the phone element takes up room. Also, as has been touched upon before, if you make the iPhone as good as the Touch, you don't sell any Touchs, so where's their motivation? |

Good last point there Step. Though I guess that I might say market saturation for one thing, as it's familiar practice for them. And for two, I guess when we see larger capacity flash drives, that's when it will happen. Though I'm hoping sooner, or at least the implementation of an expansion SD slot.

I doubt Apple will ever willingly fit an expansion slot to any of their devices - that would be too much like allowing users freedom to do what they want with the files on their iPhone.
Bluetooth file transfers aren't even allowed. |

LOL...So that's why I couldn't give my friend any of my ringtones ! What a joke ! Actually, not funny. That's pretty damned shady and sad. I don't care much about BT, but it's still demeaning to a consumer when they're shut down like that !

Apple will argue it's copy protection and they're protecting the labels' property but, given that most (all?) major labels now deal with the like of Amazon's music store and the updated Napster service (ie completely DRM-free mp3 files) and pretty much every other phone with bluetooth allows for file transfers, it's a pretty hollow excuse.
It's like a lot of things with Apple - their last concern is the end user. edit: anyway, even if you could've sent the files to your mate, he couldn't've used them as ringtones anyway as Apple only let you used one you've purchased from iTunes. Like I said, the customer is the least of Apple's concerns - hell, even the RIAA argued against charging royalties on ringtones. |

There are programmes you can "buy" or trial (self destructs after 3 tones) you use for ring tones, as you say its silly
