you are correct in that a premade Mini-B wire will not have anything connected to pin 4 at all. what you have to do is bridge it right on the H300's female port, there was a picture somewhere (i gotta find it.. it was 1cf2's). i'm not sure of any colors, as i haven't yet dissected any usb cables myself.

the way he put the jumper it doesn't interfere with the mating of the connectors.
