Update: sorry about the long delay. I couldn't get the drive to spin up when connected to the PC adapter I bought on eBay. Since I had no other way to test the drive I shipped it back to the seller for testing. It checked out OK, but I still couldn't get it to spin up.
My concerns are the following:
- the drives from iPods might be crippled by Apple so they may not work outside iPods.
- Mario Stoll's soldering skills are much better than mine, so looking at the teency tiny wires and contacts I'd have to solder I feel I was too optimistic when I decided to try this.
Possible solutions: HDs from Zunes might work. We need some sort of pre-made adapter. There are plenty of adapter boards on eBay, but what's needed is an adapter cable.
