Purchased a PMP w/ Boot Failure screen

Just bought a PMP from ebay for $60aud ($55usd). Anyway, the seller said that everything looked ok except that it would not boot and came up with the "Boot Failure" screen.

I'm wondering whether I have just managed to steal a bargain (i.e. $60 for a working pmp!) or whether the hard drive is faulty. Does anyone know?

If you've been here long enough, you would know that I once had a PMP (and still own it), but I smashed the screen. Anyway, I pulled that apart today and took out the HDD, so basically if the HDD if shot I will attempt to do the quick switch.

However I'm thinking that the PMP might just have a software error, rather than a hdd one.

These are the pictures.

Does anyone know whether this screen could mean a faulty hdd? I'll probably have a test anyway, but It would help to know early so that I don't have to buy the popper screw drivers.
