Read somewhere (can't remember where) the sequence to switch to full UMS drag/drop is shut the player off, put it in "hold", then press and hold "rewind" while connecting to the USB. So is the middle button "rewind"? If so that seems an odd placement for rewind
Either way it's not a one-time thing, it has to be done each time the Clip's connected. Also apparently doesn't make the player itself stay in UMS after disconnecting so still no file browsing, only by ID3 tag.

Nah, they're going for the name & hype.

I think the Clip is nicer-looking. Looks much better in person than in pictures, deep shiny finish that's slightly metallic. The matte variegated-heather pastels of Shuffle look dull by comparision and that white wheel is ugly. I personally think function is more important in a player though, only advantage to Shuffle over Clip is Shuffle does "shuffle" right. But that doesn't make up for the new Shuffle's inferior SQ, the older Shuffle did "shuffle" right too & it sounded better!
But then ...Mel's last post to this thread says the newest firmware for Clip fixes it's "shuffle" problem. So there goes the last reason to choose the Shuffle.

OK...so you're doing that just with singles and not all your music. Sounds like a pretty good idea to make singles easier to find with players that sort by tags. Especially since most people don't put too many full albums on small capacity players. (Unless they absolutely love the entire CD.)

I have seen a few complaints about iriver color-screen flash players regarding the same issue, first button press wakes it up and it requires a second press for the desired function. But strangely enough, I have always considered this an advantage. T10 2GB has a sliding "hold" function but I never have to remember to use it. Since any accidental button press only lights the screen, I have never accidentally changed volume or function even without putting it on "hold".
