As per earlier in the the thread, it's
possible the battery read indicator is switched on the T60, meaning that "alkaline" actually is the setting to accurately read rechargeable NiMHs, and "rechargeable" is the setting that accurately reads alkalines.
Regardless of which setting is used, the battery you use is still going to last the same amount of time. Neither setting is going to make any battery last longer. It's just a matter of getting an accurate reading of remaining capacity. So choose whatever setting you like.
But I believe what fcormier is trying to say in the last post is "what does it matter?"
It's not like you gotta go find a USB port if you happen to be away and your battery runs out. You can always carry a spare charged NiMH, or if you forget then AAA alkalines can easily be found anywhere.
