Not for 1st generation Clix, it's MTP only. There is no user-created firmware to make it UMS. 2nd generation Clix has a user-selectable menu item on the player that allows MTP or UMS. At the present time it doesn't look like iriver will release any UMS firmware for 1st generation Clix.

I don't have a 1st gen Clix but iriver players have similarities, so if 1st gen Clix MTP mode works anything like T-series players then you don't have to use WMP. If you want to use software any MTP music management program should work. (Media Monkey, Yahoo Music, etc.)
If you don't want to use any software then drag-and-drop will still work, but you don't have the full control you would have if it operated as UMS. That means no creating folders or renaming files directly on the player. You have to create all your folders on the desktop in Windows Explorer, then drag over the completed folders.
