My new X20 buzzes when playing Ogg files
Hi all,
I just purchased an X20 today. The main reasons for chooisng this over other players were the easily replaceable battery, support for Ogg Vorbis and the SD Micro expansion slot.
The second I switched on the product, however, I noticed a distinct buzzing sound coming through the headphones- perhaps about 30 dB below the reference level. I would best describe the sound as that of a noisy flourescent tube. Strangely, this buzzing only occured with the Ogg Vorbis file I had just copied onto the machine - not the standard iriver.mp3 file that shipped with it. And that very same Ogg file had been on my iriver T60 and was playing back absolutely perfectly.
After further experimention, I now discovered my X20 can play any file perfectly encoded with the Fraunhofer, LAME and WMA codecs, but anything encoded with Ogg Vorbis causes this buzzing sound to occur.
I am trying to ascertain whether my unit is faulty, or whether this problem afflicts every single X20. Perhaps if other people could test for this problem, I could get an idea of whether this is an isolated problem or not.
The only thing I need to emphasise is that the buzzing is quite a way below the 0 dB digital clipping level, so people who listen to popular music or anything with consistent dynamics would probably not notice this problem. But for me, I listen only to classical, and the buzzing is often louder than the music itself!
I have also created some small test files that people could use to test on their own X20. In these test files, I have enocded the exact same source PCM WAV file as a Windows Media Audio file, an MP3 file and an Ogg Vorbis file. Both the WMA and MP3 file play back perfectly onthe X20, but the Ogg Vorbis file buzzes like mad on the X20. All files work perfectly on my T60. I have tried to upload these test files without success though. Anyone who could help me test this issue is welcome to contact me for them.
Thanks
