I posted earlyer that I had the same problem as you guys. Well I made my loved imp 550 word again yes, it can read cd-s again. Its been working for two months already (use it for about 10-12 hours a week)!!! So what I did : I took it apart, and tweaked the laser diode. As I said I took it apart and and took the laser pickup out, on the bottom side of it there is a potmeter its small, trimmer it is called. Well I turned it clockwise with a 1/4-th turn ,and it worked... for one day.
I think it was too much!
The I took it apart again a turned it counter-clockwise with a 1/8 this time. Just to clear it for everyone, from the postion it was in when I first opened it it tured only for 1/8-th clockwise!!! And it works ever since!
So if you guys are a little bit of the crafty types try it out! It works for me! Oh but that dosent mean it will work for you. If it dosent work out try turning it the other way but dont try turn a half circle or somthing like that drastic because it might ruin the laser! Even if you only turn it clockwise 1/16 of a circle even that might help... Who knows? I didnt take it apart again to try it again
