I heard, through the BBC, that it was 4 dead - the Yankee guy, his instructor and two people who lived in the building.
I think the fact that he was in the plane with someone else immediately discounts any sort of suicide theory.
Even if the guy had wanted to top himself, I doubt he would've done it in such a way that would definitely kill one other person and risk killing many more.
It was, as others have said, just an accident.
Looking at the link showing the flightpath, I must say I'm surprised planes are allowed over the East River. Especially at such a low height.
That just strikes me as dangerous.
