If the original fw can control more than one "input" at a time, I can see no reason why rockbox can't do the same... it will make rockbox usable for me!

I hate to sound harsh but because your touchpad does not fall within the baseline I don't think you will be getting any remediation any time soon. I dont know the difficuilty level behind it but I think you should consider replaceing the touchpad instead.
