Youtube videos to PMC -- quick, easy & free method !!

I'm a great fan of youtube and similar sites, and have amassed a nice little collection of videos that are great to carry around on the pmc.

WMP cannot directly take .flv files, so you will need to convert it to a different format. Ive tried different software that does direct conversion to wmv, but it results in wmvs that either have no sound or play with a jitter in the PMC.

After trying many different ways to get them onto the pmc, I thought I'd share this *stress free* and quick way of doing it.

Give this a try:

Download "FLV Encoder" .... it's FREEWARE !
you can download it here CLICKITY!

Then >
1. Select your .flv file
2. Select the output directory
3. Choose the "PMC friendly" settings - these are the MOST important
*Rez: 320 x 240 (can leave de interlaced on or off)
*Audio Bitrate : 128

4. Select an output location to save it to.

5. now, the VITAL bit, to get it to output to a different file format - change the extension to whatever.mpg see - my example below:

6. Press ENCODE. Depending on the duration of your flv clip, its usually VERY quick. (of course it also depends on your system speed)

Now, drag that MPG video file into WMP and let it do the conversion to WMV.

**You can indeed try changing the output to .wmv in FLV Encoder, but I found the output result is not pmc friendly...with jumpy audio and video, sometimes no audio etc. If anyone can come up with a direct way in FLV encoder - please let us know !

happy conversions

Ps-
(just a note - this little guide has assumed you know how to save videos from youtube etc. For those that havent done this before, try the firefox browser with the "videodownloader " and "unplug" extensions. Read the instructions for these extensions - theyre pretty straightforward)
